Iran Sues Russia

For refusing to deliver S-300 air-defense system

UPI -- Iran sued Russia in the International Court of Justice over its refusal to supply S-300 missile systems, an Iranian diplomat said. The two countries signed a contract in 2007 requiring Russia to provide Iran with at least five S-300 systems, Iran's Press TV reported. Russia has said it is unable to deliver the systems because of U.N. Security Council sanctions preventing the sales to the Islamic Republic >>>

There's a claim here that Iran owns some S-300:

Russian Hardware

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on

Has never been a match for USA. The other problem is that Russians never give away their top technology. So you end up with second rate Russian hardware which is no match for first rate American. Not to mention these require complex support. For example space based guidance; air superiority and so on. Without them these systems are worthless. Just useful in a museum.

Hey Iranian Einsteins, think!

by gorbeh pashmalo on

If Russian defense technology were any good, USSR and its satellite clients would not collapse.

Look at all the conflicts of past 30-40 years where some Russian client country got involved in a military engagement with a US-made military technology.

Without any exception, in every single conflict, the latter defeated the former.

IRI is wasting Iranian hard-earned $$$'s on Russian crap, period!

May we see a regime change in Iran sooner than later!

Has the Busherh power plant

by vildemose on

Has the Bushehr power plant ever produced one volt of electricity after 20 plus some years??

Has Russia ever completed any project to its completion ever in Iran??

Why the nincompoops in IRI would ever trust Russia??

Why would Russians not try to milk the IRI indefinitely? What's there to stop them??

1.  Suing Russia might have been grounds arranged by Iran and Russia to give Russia an excuse to deliver the S-300 missiles.  (Russia can then say 'we are complying with a court order.' ... That MAY be the rationale.)

2.  It was the Tajiks (Persians) of Afghanistan, then called "The Northern Alliance," that handed the USSR it's worst military defeat (resulting in a bloody and expensive stalemate, yet clear USSR military failure); it also probably led to the collapse of the USSR.

The Iranian government should think twice before f*cking with Russia.  The Russians might not take sh*t from a bunch of bozos the way the Americans have.

100% in favor missiles

I'm 100% in favor of Iran having S-300 missiles - Every person that loves Iran should also be.

Missile Defense

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on

The system developed in Russia is designed to knock out anti-aircraft and cruise missiles and also ballistic missiles.

This is from the article. They are not designed for aircraft but missiles. Therefore Abarmard is right in his statement.

Russia is just trying to milk Iran. Take the money but not deliver the goods. If they are illegal then give back the money with interest! You cannot have it both ways.  Besides Russia could have vetoed the sanctions! You don't get to sell something; take the money then say sorry I won't deliver! Typical rip off.

love it.

PS. still better glasses than I have.

Goes to show you are either making more money in the US than we do in Europe, or your health insurance works better than mine. ;o)

Abarmard jaan what are you talking about?!

by Esfand Aashena on

A operational "missile defense system" is not in service anywhere in the world!  I know US, Israel, China, Russia and others are toying with it and there has been some success but nothing solid.

The S-300 that Iran was buying was air defense against Air Force jets not missiles!

Everything is sacred

S-300 air-defense system is a system that controls missiles. One of the most sophisticated systems. It can control missiles to hit targets in order to protect an area. Having a missile is separate from having a control system. Most Iranian missiles are offensive in nature, meaning that if attacked, they will attack back, S-300 air-defense system is a defensive system that can recognize an attacker and direct the missiles BEFORE they hit their target.

Hope this helps.

The Islamic Republic military was capable of producing its own ballestic missiles, at least according to the IR's regular "gondeh goozi", i.e. propaganda clips, on the matter. So how come they are buying missiles from the ruskies?
