Veiled Prophet of Khorasan

Why is it that any time any one brings up the short comings of the Shah regime, we point out that IRI is worse and indirectly concluding Shah was good.

Because that is the choice we faced at that time. We do not live in a vacuum. When you replace someone you better make sure  it is for the better. In the USA they replaced some incompetent Democrats with insane Tea Bagger. A bad move.

I never said don't learn from the past.  I very much want to learn from our past mistakes and get it right. For after IRI we better be careful what comes. One thing we do not want is MKO.

I have pointed out the problems with the Shah many times. But reality is that he went and the IRI came. It was a real choice not a theoretical idea. If people had been reasonable they would have settled for Bakhtiar. They  chose wrongly and paid for it.

Has any one even hinted (well beside Sargord) that IRI is better then Shah? We all agree that we are in much shitier place now but that does not mean we were in a great place then. If we don't learn from those mistakes and the mistakes that we have made during and after the 79, how are we to improve next time?

It is all a matter of perspective and degrees. Yes the Shah did all of what you are saying. Minus the sarcasm. However he was a much kinder man than Khomeini. When it comes to the left who did worse? Be fair: who mass executed the leftists? Shah was hard on them yes, but no where near as brutal as Khomeini.

Rastakhiz was a terrible mistake as were many things he did. But it ia all a matter of proportion. I had leftists in my family. All of them get off by some intimidation and maybe some beating. There were not summarily shot. No it was not right torturing them. But they got freed after a while. Not so with Islamic Republic.

In addition if you were not political you were pretty much safe. There was no war; people did have jobs. I am not saying it was perfect. But I would never trade the Shah with Islamic Republic.

Would you?

enemies of shah still do not understand

by afshinazad on

usually people by getting older or living free society or experiencing  or atleast viewing western politics how it work could understand and appreciate what we had pre 1979 and could admit that we iranian what we have lost. might shah was guilty of protecting us from commies or islamist and our savok was harsh on some people, but we never understood him and he never understood us. we never understood what is that we want and results was clear and now our people in huge prison called ISLAMRAN.in order for society to reach freedom society must evolve and our society was not and we were far from understanding fundamental of political freedom ,we were the society that just started to walk and we were not ready and most of the country still far behind the time,it was not governments fault it was cultural problem, still we were moving toward modern society and it takes time and understanding to digest the politics and we were not ready at all.so let's give the man atleast credit that what ever iran has today is from his achivements and service to his country, might he was not the best but he wasn't the worst.he loved his country and at this moment every one I know in iran they regrad that we the iranian destroyed our country and peoples hope.

How dare you call this great man a "domesticated pet,"

when he single handedly gave the entire Iranian nation:

SAVAK: plus all those lovely cooked eggs and Pepsi bottles to go with.

Hezbe Rastakhiz: and gave you the option to leave the country, just in case you didn't feel like having an appoitment with SAVAK, or living in a single-party, monarchial democracy.

Took the Brits to International Court in Lahe and successfuly won the case for Nationalization of Iranian Oil Industry.

Last but not least, had theaudacity to come on national television and tell the whole country : " I heard your cry of Revolution".

MAN SEDAY ENGHELAB SHOMA RA SHENIDAM.

Just a bunch of Namak Nashnas so & so...

Oh, I forgot to mention, he also discovered, produced and shipped Iranian Oil for decades, and....

what a shame that some characters still hate Iran and Iranians of the  pre '79 .

I'm sure the wind will change the direction and Iranian will rise as a proud nation again.

down with IRR & it's supporters.                     Maziar

not funny at all. The Shah was a good patriotic Iranian. If we had the Shah Iran would have not had an 8 year war; much less poverty; freedom from barbaric Sharia. In all forms the Shah was vastly better than the Islamic Re-thuglic.

Some domesticated pets are smart

Once they figure out where they can get some snacks from the master, they can come back and beg for it for decades!
