by dingo daddy En passant on Fri Jul 30, 2010 09:05 PM PDThe may not be a modern political leader at this moment, but Alahazrat is the undisputed cultural leader of Iran Zamin. He is the link to Persia's glorious past and traditions. As such he should be respected and honored by all Iranians.
He's an introvert
by Mola Nasredeen on Fri Jul 30, 2010 08:53 PM PDTHe has (and shows) an introvert's characteristics. He's not comfortable in front of camera, at times his eyes avoid the cameras. This is how Carl Jung the Swiss psychiatrist explains it:
"Introversion
Introversion is "the state of or tendency toward being wholly or predominantly concerned with and interested in one's own mental life". Introverts tend to be more reserved and less outspoken in large groups. They often take pleasure in solitary activities such as reading, writing, drawing, tinkering, playing video games, watching movies and plays, and using computers, along with some more reserved outdoor activities such as fishing. An introvert is likely to enjoy time spent alone and find less reward in time spent with large groups of people, though they tend to enjoy interactions with close friends. They prefer to concentrate on a single activity at a time and like to observe situations before they participate. Introverts are easily overwhelmed by too much stimulation from social gatherings and engagement. They are more analytical before speaking.Introverts choose solitary over social activities by preference."
He never was a leader to begin with. He talks and acts like an observer, more like a recent graduate from a journalism school. Lack of confidence and resignation. An individual who's trying to explain things that he doesn't understand or not sure of.

Time for RP to go back to Iran...
by eroonman on Fri Jul 30, 2010 05:04 PM PDTRP seems to have all the right ideas, and it seems too, he certainly has the will to continue to talk a good talk.
So, I say, Sir, get on a plane, chartered or not, business class at a minimum, and go back to Iran and see what happens.
According to history, unlike your unfortunate (for us) father, you were too young to have committed any (great) crimes against Iran as of 1979. To this day, I'd like to see anyone try you for treason in or out of Iran, and your continued support for freedom in Iran has been impressive to say the least.
I have read your books and believe you mean every word you said in them.
But you are not an effective or valid element in Iran's history.
You are an Iranian though.
And if you intend to be a factor in Iran, than you need to become a factor in Iran. That means you need to get off your a$$ and go there.
Your chances are very good:
a) they won't dare kill or imprison you as this would be obviously evil with unpredictable consequences for what they call "order".
b) once there you could simply ask for meetings with "them" and start the whole process of "very public objection".
Sure they will eventually arrest you as you start to make your point, especially since their argument is so weak, but if you want to save Iran, get started! Mandela, King, Gandhi are all people you certainly cannot ever be compared to, but even they all got arrested in the pursuit of their cause once in a while! You don't even claim to have had your dream yet!
What is your dream sir?
And once you've got one, come out of your freaking coma and start living it!
And stop whining to NPR! Jesus!

Specially Reza Shah. I just don't understabd where all these hatered comes from?
Well, right shah was a dictator and although having all other form of freedom, we did not have political freedom. He should have made the Nahjolbalaghe and other similar books mandatory in schools so we could understand what an Islamic Regime would bring us.

by oktaby on Fri Jul 30, 2010 09:56 AM PDThoping for a bit more mature commenting (not from IRR agents & the lunatic) after all these years of rants and raves every time RP's name comes up. You can read many threads here over just the past few months and several articles including 'All the Shah's men', the original thread about SK's book, and the article featured now.
No sane person of 'royalty' can/will openly talk about his/her dad being a dictator or crook or anything the like. Which one of you 'Iranians' will talk less than honorable of your dad even he were some POS !?
Shah, was a servant of Iran, and if 31 years of islamic misery has not shown that, then you are blinded by prejudice & hatred.
The number of those murdered or imprisoned during Shah is less than 1% of IRR and that does not even include Iraq war dead and maimed.
There is no evidence that Shah stole endless billions. This specific point has been discussed many times. Certainly, did not give away country's wealth & sovereignty and even by percentage whatever he may have taken is negligible compared to IRR.
Now, there were plenty of grievances with Shah's regime. RP is not the most charismatic (yes Khomeini, khamenei, AN, Yazdi…. are symbols of charisma) but the enemy of Iran & you, in front of you for past 31years has been and remains the islamic rapist subhuman erteja'.

by ghalam-doon on Fri Jul 30, 2010 09:33 AM PDTIt seems that he always circles the questions about his dad. Whenever he's asked about his father's repressive regime, he refers the questioner to "historians." Perhaps RP should start thinking for a better answer. Can we say the reason we're in this mess, perhaps is due to the repressive nature of his dad's regime?
I know, I know. The monarchist will come back and label me as a "mullah lover." But it does not answer the question. Iran could be the only country in the Middle-East with a true and democratic constitutional monarchy. After all we had the constitution for it.

Do you know any country in Middle East that is democracy?
by Sahameddin Ghiassi on Fri Jul 30, 2010 07:37 AM PDTAs long as we do not have a good Just in our country, the people are only there for their own benefits, they are cruel or indifferent, lack of true information and real education, greed and the programs of other courtiers who are benefited from our disasters. We cannot have democracy. The great power and huge business companies have their best benefits now, why they want democracy for the Middle Eastern countries? As long as we are self centered, selfish and have not enough production and education and we are not obeying the real law and they people taking easily bribes. Some people are not satisfied just because they lost their illegal benefit and some people are fighting just because they lost their benefits. We use religions and nationalities, races or local language to get more personnel benefits. We will be in the same situation. To be a free country and democrat, we should first correct ourselves and just think about the society of our countries. I hope that the foreign policy also will change in our favor and they would recognize that to rob a country for ever is not possible. The people should forget their personal benefit and try to work for the country benefits. Bribe and unjust should be stopped and the employee should have enough salary not to take bribes. General education and free newspapers and free thinking should be guaranteed. In this way we can move to democracy. And all people should be allowed to take part in the power or in the government system and no groups and no citizen should be ignored or punished because of be minorities.

Open letter to RP
by September Bloom on Fri Jul 30, 2010 06:44 AM PDTOpen Letter to Pahlavi
Mr. Pahlavi, I hope it is ok that I address you as such. I know that yoru supporters call you “His Imperial Majesty,” but the year is 2010, so I don’t think it makes any sense any longer.
I am writing to say that I am happy to see that you have made statements against war with Iran. Though I have lived most of my life in the US, I have visited Iran several times, and I have a lot of family there as well. I worry about them often. Because the regime, as you know, is extremely brutal.
I also worry about war, because bombs don’t have brains. They destroy everything in their path, not just mullahs. In fact, bombs and mullahs have that in common.
I was happy about your statement because I know that two years ago, my neighbors in Westwood said that they had attended a meeting with our congressperson organized by your office, in which encouragement for war was given.
So I am glad that you have, at least in words, walked back from that position.
But I am not satisfied. Just saying that you oppose war isn't enough. It needs to be proven, and you have an amazing opportunity to show that you stand squarely against war.
Republicans in Congress have introduced a bill green-lighting an Israeli attack on Iran. (Israeli bombs don’t have brains either).
Since you are closer to the Republicans than to the Democrats, your voice is needed more than ever before. Please use your influence with these Republicans. Please write an open letter to the Republican leadership expressing your opposition to the bill. Please schedule a meeting the top republicans in the House and the Senate as well.
Show us all that you are serious when you say that you oppose war. And show these Republicans that you are serious. I don’t think there are many Iranians in the US that would have the influence you can have on these Republicans.
If these steps aren't taken, your silence will be interpreted by many that you are all talk, no action. Or even worse, that you atually support war and that you say one thing in public, another behind the scenes.
Please prove these skeptics wrong. And please HELP prevent an Israeli war with Iran.
Nothin but a puppet!
by payam s on Fri Jul 30, 2010 06:19 AM PDTIranian people would rather choose Mousavi over this guy. Even in a fair election. This guy is a joke. "I've been trying to liberate my country." My ...,you've been on vacation for 30 years (and even before that).
He truley cares
by MRX1 on Fri Jul 30, 2010 06:06 AM PDTHe truley cares about Iran but there are two obstacles in this struggle for him:
1) He is a not a natural charesmatic leader and it shows.
2) He lacks international support. (IRI is too profitable for certain segments of international community who are sucking Iran dry)
Nice tan!
by ghalam-doon on Fri Jul 30, 2010 05:00 AM PDTHe has always impressed me as an intelligent person. The questions were lame and were easy to answer. However, comparing to his father, he is in a totally different class. You just need to compare this interview with some of the interviews with the late Shah. You see the difference. He is articulate and seems he knows what he wants.
But I agree with Sargord. Perhaps he would have made a better king than his father, even though history didn't give him a chance. Nevertheless we cannot simply dismiss him because of his father . He seems to have passion for Iran. Otherwise with the money that he has, he could have "retired" to an exotic place and live the life of luxury. That's what normally deposed royal families do.
The tears in this video are real:
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=slFIQ2kLzyY
One day he should come clean with the history of his family. Accept the fact that his father had other options. He did not need to become such a ruthless dictator. But if he ever does that, then he will lose his monarchist constituency. Reza Pahlavi should decide for himself which option is more important.

Remember last year when that
by Sargord Pirouz on Fri Jul 30, 2010 01:16 AM PDTRemember last year when that fellow purporting to be young and in Tehran told us that banners would soon appear in Iran supporting the return of Reza Pahlavi? That was so funny. In fact, it was hilarious.
In Iran, no one even gives him any thought. Hardly anyone under 30's even heard of him.
Reading about the Pahlavi's has about the same amount of relevance as reading up on the Qajars.
