Masoud Barzin

Head of Iranian broadcasting under Shah's last prime minister

Good point Maziar that suffering is another topic 2 be discussed

He was denied retirement benefits as well as not being allowed to make business until he was 85 years old.  Shemr treated Hussein better than Islamic Republic treated this old man.

Everything is sacred

Then and now

Q, Barzin was in a whole different class compared to those who have run Iranian broadcasting since, those you seem to have no problem with, those who have mastered the art of propaganda, lies and religious brainwashing. These guys are ok in your eyes, but Barzin was a bad guy only because he rose in distinction under the Shah.

Barzin became head of Iranian national radio and tv during Bakhtiar's premiership, when people of the highest integrity were brought in to change the corrupt image of the Shah's former governments. Barzin allowed the live broadcast of Khomeini's return from Paris. I don't figure today's IRIB would show the same degree of fairness toward Reza Pahlavi, hypothetically speaking.

There were many like Barzin who were honest and highly respected civil servants (as there are today). Maybe you should start entertaining the possibility that there are many people doing great service to society under any government.

Barzin will be remembered with great admiration.

Javid, not to speak ill of the dead, but seriously, how can you say someone has "integrity" and "professionalism" when being the head broadcaster for one the most notorious propaganda organs and stage-managed organizations of the Pahlavi regime?

Barzin will be remembered as one of the most respected names in Iranian journalism. He had a reputation for integrity and the highest degree of professionalism.

Before his promotion to Tehran, Barzin was my father's boss as the head of public relations for the National Iranian Oil Company in Abadan. I remember him as a serious professional with a kind and charming personality.

He was exceptional. Someone any generation could look up to.
