Qods Day, 2009

Green protest demonstrations in Tehran and other cities

BBC – Thousands of opposition supporters have clashed with security forces during a government-sponsored rally in Tehran. Iran's reformists had been warned not to try to turn the pro-Palestinian Quds (Jerusalem) Day marches into anti-government protests. Reports say opposition leaders Mir-Hossein Mousavi and former President Mohammad Khatami were attacked. The opposition has been banned from holding rallies since the disputed presidential election in June. As part of the Quds Day events, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad delivered a speech in which he repeated his view that the Nazi Holocaust was a myth. ." >>>

Mr. Fatollah

by Sohraby on

My dear compatriot When

by Fatollah on

My dear compatriot

When you make a bogus claim of that sort, you should back up your statement(s) with evidence!

For the record, JJ is for Khatami and the so called green movement while I am for dismantling of IRI, and yes, AhmadiNejad has a lot of supporters, not only in Azarbaijan but also in most of Irans provincial and rural cities and villages. To claim that Iran is ruled by Azaris (Turks) just because Khamanei is one, is pure humbug! or what is your agenda?

Back to your portaghal frosh analogy, I can only imagine how your childhood memories were shaped, perhaps your dad has an explanation!?

p/s what do you call yourself these days?

They call that flag the "Lion and sun flag" in America.

It is also called the Pahlavi dynasty flag.

That flag is also called the flag of the MKO.

It is the only Iranian flag that should be displayed at Iranian protests outside Iran.

Alongside that flag Iranians should carry an American flag as well as an Israeli flag.  Let us be for reform.

Where are you getting your information from? You actually said the Azaries are not the minority anymore. Then what are they, the majority? You also made a silly comment which demonstrates your ignorance and lack of knowledge: "Azaries/ Turks or whatever they call themselves." Well they are called Azaris and the fact that you are not familiar with their culture and heritage is precisely why you make another ignorant and brutally generalized claim; that they (Azaries) all support the IRI. Damn, where the hell ARE you gettin your info from buddy? For the longest time, the Azaries have been marginalized and denied rights to practice their own culture and study their own language (similar to all other minority groups). And if your argument is: "well if they are marginalized how come they are in gov. positions like Khamenei, Mousavi, etc.?" Well the answer to this question is that yes a lot of Iranian heads of states have been from Azarbaijan, even during the Qajar dynasty, but those same states suppressed every uprising by the Azaries during the constitutional revolution (Sattar Khan, Bagher Khan, etc), during the pahlavis, and today. And the reason for this is the "persian" or fars cultural hegemony. When you categorize a people as supporters of the IRI and make comments such as: "whatever they call themselves" you are expressing your ignorance. Try to read some history. You might want to start with: Taarikheh Mashrooteye Iran, by Ahmad Kasravi.

Hey boy, as I have pounded into your brainless head before, what is barbaric is your mind set.

Just to give you a hint about the history of Iran.

The flag of Iran is not called “An Iranian Lion and Sun flag”.

It is called the “Drafesh e Kavianie”.

At least do some research before making any of your stupid comments.

Thanks for the video link. The mix of songs is amazing. I also picked a bit of Santana there too!

As for the flag, this is what could be a call for the end of IRI that couldn't be and wouldn't be.

We abroad will bring our sun and lion flags out instead.

Dear JJ

by Sohraby on

I don't agree with one part of your comment which states "But the Green Movement is less about personalities and more about a deep nation-wide desire for freedom and an end to theocratic rule".

Unfortunatly Azaries/ Turks or whatever they call themselves are the big supporters of IRI and they are no minority anymore!!!!. That's what makes the fight against IRI so difficult. You need to find "Porteghal forosh raa".

When this was about eteraaz rather than enghelaab, JJ would've been right. But as the mood gets more radical, it will definately matter if the "leaders" of the greens are in jail. It can get people VERY angry or over time, it can get them very discouraged. Time will tell.

People's revolution

by Jahanshah Javid on

Looks like the Green Movement is not going to die anytime soon. In fact all indications are that it could gain pace. The divisions within the regime are intensifying and Neither Khamenei nor Ahmadinejad are the type compromise. But neither is the opposition -- POPULAR opposition.

Mousavi, Karroubi, Khatami, Montazeri, Saneie may all be imprisoned or cut off from the public. But the Green Movement is less about personalities and more about a deep nation-wide desire for freedom and an end to theocratic rule. This is a people's revolution and I think it's unstoppable. Change is inevitable and the ayatollahs are not on the winning side.
