Thank you.  My sentiments exactly.  I would also add the following:

-Is this the same country with hundreds of thousands of street children?

-Is this the same country in which women get beaten and dragged on the streets for a few strands of hair showing?

-Is this the same country where a man can marry a second wife, and if the first wife doesn’t like it, he can just divorce her and take her children away from her?

-Is this the same country where in a great number of its villages (such as Hamideyeh in Khoozestan), people still get water from, and wash their cloths in, rivers?

-Is this the same country where UNICEF has to come to its aid to build basic schools in its rural areas?

-is this the same country where every young person’s dream is to get a visa, leave it and live somewhere else?

-Is this the same country where bloggers get flogged?

Actually, the list can go on forever.  As my father says, the IRI has dressed Tehran up like an old whore with makeup so that when people go there, they can just marvel at its “Milad Tower”, etc, and then come back to Europe and the U.S. and “bah bah and chah chah” about IRI’s great accomplishments.    And now they have fired a modified scud into space and the crowd is going nuts!!  Give me a break.

Just a note reminding you that you are not alone.

When I wrote some similar things, I was quickly reminded that I am in a very small majority of crazy people! Although I frankly don't care what a relatively small group of politically-like-mided friends who share a similar past, at least class-wise, would think of my type of opinion;  it is still nice to know that there are others who have similar opinion as you. I personally value the collective intelligence of millions of Iranians inside Iran far more than sentiments or lost class interests of a group whose interest might not coincide with that of Iranian masses.

BTW, I bold faced some similar interest to clearly seperate you from myself, one who is established to be a certain IRI agent in this site. In a sense, sorry for endorsing you :-)

On the same note, and this is something that you probably won't agree with, I find Rafsanjani as one of the greatest and smartest leaders of the 20th century, on par with Khomeini himself. I think what saved the country and  the revolution after Khomeini's death, has been the fast brain of Rafsanjani, and his leadership during the war, and his policies towards the US, the central stuff that he was ahead of Khomeini himself. And unlike many akhoonds, Rafsanjani is tireless and an organized worker! I think the series of books that he has written, in particular the many volumes of diaries which has daily events during the war is going to remain one of the best historical books of Iran.

IRI is not independent, believe me. I do know more than any of you knwo about Iran bcz unlike many of you I left Iran recently.

Just to give you an example; Iran is the biggest importer of petrol in the region. IRI has not built even one single refinery! Mr.Ahmadinejad whome you are so proude of because he has launched sttelite!!!!!!!!! is now importing ornage, bannana and even tomato! Yes, can you imagine how independent Iran is? The reserved money from oil was spent out by Ahmadinejad to the last penny. Trafic jam, hectic and stress is killing Iranians.

Don't start thinking like this, we are in aa very bad time. What has saved Mullas so far, is their brutality which is unique in its own. Executing 5000 young boy and girls in a month deserves recognition!

Mehrnaz (not verified)

Thank you, Ms Hariri. There is no doubt that, as you say, Iran, regardless of whether one supports or opposes its current leadership, is a truly independent state. Many of Iran's difficulties in the economics and democratic/human rights spheres also relate to the impact of sanctions, pressures, intrigues and interference directed at Iran's independence. This does not mean Iran's leadership does not bear responsibility for many failures and abuses, but it means an awareness on our part that we should not throw the baby with the bath-water; that is, what our revolution achieved in terms of independence for our nation is much despised and continuously under attack. Many of us who appreciate this, feel proud and excited when we hear of the achievements and accomplishments of Iranian scientists, technicians, artists, of high levels of literacy, and anything at all that indicate welfare and progress for our country, because we are very aware that the questions of human and democratic rights and economic demands will naturally flow from a nation that is educated, confident of its abilities and proud of its accomplishments and identity. Such a nation, in the context of its independence, is much more likely to stand up to internal repression and external intimidation and threats ... and win, not according to the fabricated recipes of those who do not share its destiny, but according to its own indigenous design and tempo. You are right, you (and I) will most likely be attacked by our internet Mongols as IR agents, but there are also many intelligent readers of this site.

IRI's mullah concocted dictionary

by Anonymous568989 (not verified) on

Fighting and challenging the whole world specially America means Independence in IRI's terms.

It made a lot of sense during the Cold War era to talk of independance when there was A Soviet Union vis-a-vis the U.S., each side wanted to expand their sphere of influence over the world but it does not make any sense now, there is no Soviet Union, and all countries pretty much are dependant upon one another economically, therefore politically.

Look at Russia and the U.S. now and their political dependance upon one another.

Are we talking about the same country?

by Behrooz (not verified) on

Can I confirm that we are talking about the same country as I know and live in? Are we even on the same freaking planet?

The country whose regime pays bribe to other boycotted outcasts such as Syria, Hamas and Hezbollah to get their support and uses them as mercenaries to suppress internal unrests by its own angry people and university students

Is this the same county whose government by signing a second Torkmanchay treaty gave away up to 90% of our rights in Caspian Sea and shrunk our borders even further?

Is this the same country whose integrity and borders is being challenged by a few fat Arabs bustards living in a small island called Dubai.

Is this the same country that was once a sole authority in the Persian Gulf and Island of stability in the turmoil of Middle East, but now can not event guard the 3000 years old name of its Persian Gulf?

Is this the same country whose daughters are being smuggled to Emirate and other Arab country to be sold as sex slaves to fat Arab Sheiks harems?

Is it the same country that even its nuclear industry of which you are so proud is being built by Chinese and Koreans, charging 10 times the true and fair price of free market?

Is this the same country where 20 years after the end of a war which saw the destruction of Abadan refinery, a plant which was one of the largest and most sophisticated refineries in the world, have not yet succeeded to build even a small version of it in order to supply for domestic use and still imports over 90% of its petrol?

Is this the same country that because of the incompetent and lack of diplomatic skills in part of its leaders has to buy all its needed goods in black market paying many times the fair price and as a result filling the pockets of Syrians Imareties Russians and other Gedaa Goshne countries around the world?

Is this the same country whose manufacturing has been driven to ground by a few Agha Zade like sons of Rafsanjani who by ignoring the law and smuggling foreign goods devastate the profit and sale of its factories and workshops?

Is this the same country whose agriculture has been shattered by unregulated imports, smuggling, high price of fertiliserand pesticides and more importantly lack of government support

Is this the same country that by the count of Amnesty International has the second highest rate of public execution in the world after only China and one of the highest numbers of political prisoners in the world, where turture is a rutin practice?

Is this the same country that 10% of its population have fled their homes and are scattered around the world living as refugees?

Is this the same country that by the admission of its own government 60% of its population are living under severe poverty line?

Is this the same country that ten tons of narcotics are used just in its capital Tehran every month and the age of addiction is now 10 years?

Is this the same country that sever poverty has driven its women and children to prostitution and by the admission of its own officials the starting age of prostitution among young girls is now 13 years?

Is this the same countries that 5 years after the Bam earthquake has not yet reconstructed a single building and all of the victims are still living in UN containers or under UN donated Tents?
