Bombing Iran is the only path forward
by mansours

I am writing this article knowing full well that I am opening a can of worm and that some of my closest associates may never forgive me. But I have stayed silent for too long, and I refuse to see yet another opportunity to free Iran to pass by due to the employment of the wrong tactics by us in the anti-regime opposition (as opposed to the pro-regime opposition).

For too long, the opposition has suffered from low self-esteem. We never felt comfortable taking a direct debate with our opponents, fearing that people wouldn’t side with us, circumstances weren’t right, too early to reveal our end objectives etc.

Though most of us know deep inside that the mullahs will never give up power and that the only way to achieve a democracy in Iran is through military means, the majority in the opposition are fearful of expressing these views. Clearly, these are not easily accepted views, and it takes a lot for a person to say that he or she believes that the homeland must be bombed. Nevertheless, that is the reality and the reluctance of ordinary people to accept this is precisely because the opposition has refused to have this debate. If we had a full debate, more people, perhaps even a majority would come around to this view, in my opinion.

Instead, we in the opposition have done everything we can to avoid having the debate.

This frustrated me immensely during the Bush years. We had a great President back then who not only understood these realities, but who also understood that without American and Israeli backing no Iranian opposition group could topple the mullahs. But instead of taking this issue to the Iranian people and the Iranian-American community, we shied away from it. And those who stood in the way of going all out militarily against the mullahs (such as NIAC and CASMII), we dealt with by attacking and discrediting them.

I was a big opponent of this strategy. Not because I have any fondness for NIAC, but because I believed that their efficiency in preventing our agenda was rooted in our lack of self-esteem and unwillingness to have a debate with them. NIAC beat us numerous times on Capitol Hill, and our response was to discredit them in the Iranian-American community – every time they scored in Washington, we attacked them in LA.

Even we monarchists began systematically spreading the writings of Hassan Daioleslam, in spite of his association with the Mujahedin. Some of us thought we were winning, but were we really? We may have done a lot of damage to NIAC’s image and certainly we succeeded in harming its ability to fundraise, but NIAC managed to make the liberation of Iran through military means (since there is no other way) an evil concept.

Had we taken NIAC on in a debate back in 2006, Iran would have been liberated by 2008. I am confident of this. Both the Bush administration and Israel was fully ready to take out the mullahs. But they couldn’t battle Tehran without the full and unconditional support of Iranian-Americans.

We missed that chance because we didn’t dare to have the debate.

And today, I am writing this because I am fearful that we will miss yet another golden opportunity to liberate our homeland. We are committing the same mistake as we did three years ago – instead of having the inevitable debate, I am receiving email instructions to send around articles attacking Akbar Ganji, NIAC, Hadi Ghaemi, Hamid Dabashi and many others.

We should know by bow that this isn’t the right strategy. Certainly not under these circumstances – when the people of Iran are rising up, when they are shouting death to the Dictator, when they are calling for an Iranian republic, then why let the NIAC folks get off the hook by only spreading petty articles about them? We should take the fight to their territory. We should have the debate, let the best arguments win in the free market of ideas. If not now, then when? When the Basij are killing Iranians indiscriminately, who can defend non-action by the US? When the blood of Neda is still on the streets in Tehran, who can oppose sanctions? When Ahmadinejad has revealed that he was a “petty dictator” all along, who can support Obama’s naïve call for diplomacy?

So let me start the debate with the following proposition.

The events of the last few months have not changed the Islamic Republic, it has revealed the Islamic Republic. It is and has always been a dictatorship. It cannot be reformed, and there is no such thing as moderates there. Deep inside, Moussavi is no different than Ahmadinjead. In fact, what Ahmadinejad is doing today to Moussavi, Moussavi did 30 years ago to others. Now more than ever, the horrific IRGC militia is ruling Iran and they will never give up.

So they must be destroyed. It’s as simple as that.

Gasoline sanctions must be imposed on Iran. Not because sanctions are enough to overthrow the mullahs, but because a significant weakening of the economy is needed prior to a military attack. The weaker Iran is, the shorter the military fight and the smaller the total number of casualties. (Consequently sanctions should not be sold as a solution but rather as a measure to soften the enemy before the final operation).

With massive American aerial attacks for three weeks on the IRGC, Iran will be in turmoil. To avoid a rallying around the flag effect (which unfortunately cannot be completely avoided), the US will keep a low profile politically and let most of the talking be done by Reza Pahlavi, Shahriar Ahy or Hassan Daioleslam. Alternatively, a council of various opposition groups can be assembled.

If the bombings are heavily targeted, and only hit IRGC compounds, then the already sour popular sentiment in Iran can escalate further. In the best case scenario, no American boots on the ground will be needed, but most likely, an invasion of Tehran from air will be necessary to finish off Khamenei´s rule.

A reasonable scenario is that the entire operation will be completed in three months. Even if everything possible goes wrong, and Iran follows the path of Iraq, then it may take up to five years before a stable government is set up. That may sound bad, but the alternative is that the IRGC continues to rule and impoverish Iran for another three decades. And remember, Iranians are ready for democracy far more than the Iraqis ever were, and America has learnt from its mistakes in Iraq – it won’t repeat them in Iran.

Of course, let me be clear: People will die. My own relatives may day. But aren’t they dying already? Aren’t the youth of Iran being tortured, raped and killed in Evin already? And aren’t their deaths a complete waste today? Wouldn’t it be better to die while actually fighting for freedom?

Does it feel good making this recommendation? Not at all. But if Khomeini didn’t have the guts to call people to the streets knowing very well that they would get killed, there would never have been a revolution in 1979.

And if we don’t have the guts to call for the only solution available to us right now – US military strikes and an invasion of Iran – then we won’t have our revolution in 2009. Or possibly for another three decades.

So let’s have this debate.

interesting

by IRANdokht on

I am pleasantly surprised to see the usual AIPAC supporters have even spoken against mansours' genius ideas on how to obliterate Iran, but the theory of "counter-intelligence operation"? now come on!

I wonder how mahmoudg and Ali Akbar feel about having spoken up in support of mansours and now being accused of involvement with the "certain" groups covert mission!   LOL

This site has always been filled with warmongering idiots who wag their tails for their masters and beg them to bomb Iran. This is not something new! and it's not someone else's operation. We've seen it plenty of times from the regular members of this site.

I've tried to post my comment a few times, I think there's a glitch on this article. I hope it goes away with all its glitches and its supporters...

This idea is not only loopy but it will also guarantee the survival of the Islamic republic for at least another 30 years.

mullah detecting bombs?

by Mehdi on

So there are bombs that kills only mullahs without harming others?Wow! I am impressed!

Now, this is disturbing though: //iranian.com/main/2009/aug/ayatollah-yousef-sanei

Now I am not sure if all mullahs should be killed or only the evil ones.

Maybe they could do a software upgrade to their mullah-detecting bombs so that it kills any mullah who is 60% or more evil, seriously injure mullahs who are between 20%-60% evil and just scare the hell out of mullahs who are less than 20% evil (so that they will quit being a mullah altogether).  Doyou think this can be arranged before your planned bloodbath?

Fred

Helping Islamists

by Fred on

Advocating military action against one’s homeland to free it from brutal occupiers is nothing new, French, German and many other nationalities have done it. But the occupying Islamist regime in Iran is in different class and advocacy of such action is not only immoral, it is playing into the hands of the Islamist occupiers. This Islamist regime will be done away with by Iranians, but the sane world must help with material and moral support of the beleaguered Iranian nation.

Evidence of the advocacy of military action playing into the hands of the Islamists are many and one does not have to go far. Take for example this Dr. Strangelove who has already taken this advocacy and gone on a rant whipping up emotions settling scores with the enemies of the Islamist republic. The one who is after empowering the Islamist Rapist Republic with nuke not only gets the opportunity to attack the enemies of the regime he gets to fortify his “crux statement”.

“The crux of the issue about Iran's nuclear program is, in my opinion, as follows: If Iran has the ability to make the bomb on a short notice, it becomes unattackable. That is not something that the US and Israel can tolerate. They want to be the hegemone of the Middle East.”

Without judging anyone else for their opinion, I'll just say that this would be the worst thing for Iran and Iranians.  Changes MUST come from within and from hamvatans living in Iran, not those living abroad.  US intervention at this point is just not acceptable.   Other than that, I support any and every action taken by the movement itself to rid Iran of this criminal regime.

Mammad

Blood Thirsty Traitors

by Mammad on

The author is not merely committing treason by calling for military attacks, he is an idiot whose idioticity has taken away the "best" of him, if he has any. This is not merely expressing opinion. This is calling for high crimes and committing treason.

When charlatans like Ahy and Daiossalam are supposed to be spokesmen for this idiot and whatever that he supposedly represents (which is at most a small clique of treasoneous-minded idiots), tow khod hadith mofassal khaan az in mojmal.

The criminal Bush and his ally Israel did not attack Iran because they did not have the support of Iranian-Americans; they never gave a hoot to what I-A, Iranian, the world, etc. think. They did not do so because they knew they would not succeed, and wanted to save their own backs.

If Obama and/or Israel dare to do it now, they would have the same fate: They will regret undertaking whatever idiotic attacks that they might make. No interference in Iran. Iranians can handle the problems by themselves. They also do not need crocodile tears of the idiotic author and his ilk.

The idiotic author who cannot see 5 ft ahead of himself has made a big deal out of NIAC, as if NIAC has prevented liberation of Iran. Who the hell is NIAC anyway? What can they do, or what has it done? The number of times Shahollahies and their Israeli allies lobbied the Congress for attacks and tough saqnctions against Iran far far exceeds anything that NIAC might have allegedly done. But, hey, the idiotic author and his clique have no fault! It is someone else' fault that they are still living in the Diaspora.

The idiotic author is receiving "instruction" to attack Ganji, and others, but "they are not the right strategy," as if these people are protecting Iran's ruling establishment. From whom does the idiotic author receive "instructions?"? Reza Pahlavi, Ahy, or Daiossalam? Or, from Tel Aviv, and neocons in the U.S.?

Just when Iranians are becoming united, just when for the first time Iranians living in Iran and in the Diaspora are united for a common purpose; just when huge fractures have appeared in the ruling establishment that cannot be healed; just when Iranians have demonstrated their true culture and identity by peacefully demonstrating, first against the rigged election, and then against all the atrocities of the establishment, just when there is actually a real chance to get rid of the ruling establishment peacefully, the idiotic author and his boddies call for blood. Of course, it is not his blood, it is not his life, it is those of others. He is thirsty for blood. That is all he wants.

And, why? Because the idiotic author and his masters, like Ahy, are dreaming to grab power. They cannot wait, as the idiotic author himself acknowledges. They have already divided the spoils of a destroyed Iran - no, not just Iran, but a destroyed Middle East, because the attacks will set fire on the entire ME, unlike what the idiotic author says, because he has no understanding of what is going on - among themselves. Ahy will be the foreign minister, Daei the PM, and the idiotic author commander-n-chief of the armed forces!! Dream on idiot.

This is while even Reza Pahlavi has become, for the first time, very realistic, at least in public. Of course, it is always possible that he is saying things differently in private; he is a Pahlavi in any case.

Finally, the most amazing thing is that, such pieces of garbage are allowed to be posted here on this site in the name of freedom of expression.

Kaveh Nouraee

Mansours

by Kaveh Nouraee on

The only thing that I can see that would be guaranteed by the action you propose is that people will indeed die. Other than that, you're relying on a lot of guesswork and speculation.

First of all, how can it be that a US military attack would take three months? You are aware, I'm sure (and I hope) that the US military has been engaged in two countries on either side for several years.

The US military is at this moment incapable of carrying out such an attack. It cannot be done. There are shortages of personnel, equipment, materiel and strategy.

You name it, they don't have it.

Secondly, even with US backing (speaking hypothetically), there is no cohesive movement amongst the opposition that is capable of organizing into a functioning government. The same indecisveness and "what do we do now?" way of thinking that facilitated the desruction of the monarchy will prevent progress. Look at all of the so-called opposition groups. Everyone wants to be a general, no one wants to be a soldier.

Unfortunately, in order to implement the removal of the IR, blood will inevitable be spilled. The best idea (which has yet to surface) will result in the blood of the IR being the only blood spilled.

shushtari

Obviously, this is a very tough subject...

by shushtari on

I, for one, would never advocate BOMBING iran....

I think the best solution is to bring the mullahs to their knees:

-place arrest warrents on ALL MULLAH/GOVT officials. so if they leave the country to go to china or russia or europe they can be arrested and placed in jail for future execution ;)

-identify and seize ALL THEIR assets which are held in swiss, and other crumy accounts.

-create a united block of all of europe, us and any other willing countries to boycott iranian oil.

-help expose/publish the evidence of the mullahs' dirty deeds in lebanon, iran, iraq, afghanistan, etc. so that it is out there for all to see.  once this kind of info is out in the public, even the dirty russians and chinese can't justify dealing with the mullahs

-assist the oil industry workers to create a massive nationwide strike- this, alone, will crush the mullahs economy in less than 2 weeks.

and finally, provide any and all forms of assistance to the iranian youth/resistance (arms, electronic jaming, whatever else they need) and let them finish the job

-once the ants nest is kicked in make sure that all the head mullahs- khamenei, and every other goon is arrested and put on public trial after the revolution so that all of their crimes- from cinema rex to 2009 is exposed

Only an enemy of Iran and Iranian people would advocate bombing the country for any length of time and even worse, only worry about the image of the aggressors by advising them to keep a low profile.

The other one says gasoline embargo would be great in addition to bombardment and people would support it!!!! HELLO!!! From earth to mahmoudg: how do you think food gets moved and distributed in the cities? A city as populated as Tehran cannot provide necessities and food for the residence without gasoline. You're sitting in your comfy house in about two miles radius of a fully-packed grocery store and issuing orders to the western country on how to kill Iranians with bombs and starve the ones who are left?

You're either very simple-minded or after killing more Neda's and Sohrab's and Ashkan's... along with their entire families.

Mansours you said you've been quiet so far, please continue to stay quiet because the crap that comes out of you is harmful and cost people's lives.

Iran has too many idiots and traitors.

And Mansours is just another one of Iran's version of Ephialtes.

He writes "With massive American aerial attacks for three weeks..."  followed by "To avoid a rallying around the flag effect (which unfortunately cannot be completely avoided), the US will keep a low profile politically..."

So, bomb the crap out of Iran, but...well...you know, keep a low profile politically.  What does this even mean?  Yeah, okay.  Obviously you thought this out.  You also obviously thought about the conseuquences, the dead, the price of oil, the global recession, Iran's potential use of whatever it has to retaliate against regional countries, etc...

Anyways, you're an idiot, and a traitor of the worst kind who out of hatred for a regime, would easily sacrifice Iranians.  Sad part is, you're not alone.

Luckily, your suggestions will be dismissed as just another set of idiotic comments, made by, well Iran's little Ephialtes (google it)...dumbass!

oktaby

The change can and should come only from within Iran

by oktaby on

with or without the help and support of the Iranians outside of Iran first and the rest of the world second. I do appreciate the immense frustration with a sub-human regime and its crime and that will be dealth with in good time. Quick war with Iran is a fallacy and does not hold to most understanding of islamic army's capabilities or preparedness. It certainly does not seem to account for Russia and China interests and will most likely make the Khake Pake Iran another playground for bunch of fascists and anti-humans to test their war mongering dreams yet again. And extend the life of islamic regime beyond its expiration date. The two ends of the spectrum are not the kind of traitor supported Trita Parsi style diplomacy or War that U.S. can certainly ill afford. WAR IS NOT AN OPTION logically, tactically, strategically, morally, financially, or by any other measure. I do not even exclude armed resistence and overthrow when/if all Civil movement options have run their course and not produced results and we are certainly not there yet. Even then that movement has to be led, fed, nurtured and directed by IRANIAN forces from within IRAN with or without the support of Iranians outside of Iran first, and the rest of the world, second.

mahmoudg

Halelujah. Right on!

by mahmoudg on

I have been saying this for a few years.  Strategic and concentrated attacks are the only way to remove this regime.  We have seen in the last two months what notorious force we are up against.  the 100-200 K basij and pasdars will kill millions to clinch to power.  Hence a strategically centered attack coupled with heavy sanctions. i.e. gasoline embargo will bring this regime down.  People will be supporting it by staying home and not coming out in droves in support of the regime.
