Massacre of Colours

I heard the rumours, they were arresting colours

The pink and the red, the yellow and the purple

They searched for them everywhere

Sought them out in the fields, out on the streets

Caught them and grabbed them

And tore their shinny, sultry dreams

They were handcuffed, scolded and fettered aside

Pointed to the jail, rusted in the trail

The red was accused of passion

The pink was told it lacked any sense of ration

The yellow had no self-respect and was cautioned

The purple, the poor, shameless purple was condemned to lashes

The colours screamed, pondered their claims

Asked for mercy, and bargained for a plea

They recited verses from the holy books

Counted the many colours in the heavenly brooks

And asked for the rainbow to be their witness

Picked up the roses, the lilies and the daffodils to pay their bail

And waited, and waited, all to no avail

The judge was black, harsh and brash

He laughed at them

Mocked their colours and cursed their glow

He shunned their plea

And forced the rainbow to flee

He painted them with black

And gave them a very good smack

He banned them from the public

I heard the rumors, they were all massacred
