Most valuable real estate of the future

The most valuable real estate of the future is not in Manhattan, Tokyo, Paris, Beverly Hills or anywhere with a physical address for that matter.  The most valuable real estate is the surface of your tablet a la iPad, Galaxy, Nexus etc.

Cyber marketers are finding that explicit inclusion of ads (text, photo, video etc) in content is not working as well as they had hoped.  Customers are really not happy seeing 5-15 seconds of videos before watching what they want on YouTube or CNN.  Most people and specially the younger generation does not pay any attention to these ads.  As a matter of fact, most users get pissed off.  Same with quasi 3D animations that seem to jump out of the page in-your-face type ads.  They were cute and interesting 3 years ago but definitely not today.

To address this challenge some marketers are now suggesting that content should be left intact and ads should appear or presented in a "frame" like manner around the content.  A dedicated area around the screen that is under control of your service provider (Verizon, ATT. etc).  This is most critical for tablets which are envisaged to be the most used form of personal communication in the near future.  Instead of a frame, there may be a strip on the top or bottom of the page.  It will probably depend on the size of the tablet.

The very poorly made picture above gives you some idea of what the tablets of next few years may look like.  Continuously changing ads sort of in a frame around content.

It is estimated that by 2015 over 2.5 billion people worldwide will be using some sort of a tablet; ones similar to what we know and use today or tablets that do everything including functioning as a phone.

Imagine Pepsi wanting to introduce a beverage or Nike wanting to market a new basketball shoe worldwide.  They can arrange for 2.5 billion people to see the same (similar) ad for their product at exactly 9 am on Monday November 24 2015 no matter where they are at or what web site they are surfing at that moment.  This can obviously be done today by services which place ads on various sites, but it would require 10x more orchestration effort and cost a lot more.
