Check out Iran.tv and go to the sports section and they have all the games played so far (with the exception of Iran- North Korea June 6th)

Interesting to note that the atmosphere in the stadium was a reminder of a match being played in Germany or England. That is how much passion was there on the side of the players and the attendees.

Iran korea... the first match in tehran

I went back and watched the teams first encounter in tehran a few months ago and i was reminded again of the vigor with which this team can play the game and the opportuities it can create. There was so much enthusiasm and so much effort. I guess they have been on a decline since that time. If they can put the same passion on display next wednesday this korean team can be beaten easil

i don't know why ghotbi would be happy about the s.korea-s.arabia tie (mabybe as opposed to a s.arabia win). if s. arabia would've lost to s. korea, iran could have advanced with a tie even if s. arabia and n. korea would have tied. but as it stands now, we have to win in case s. arabia and n. korea tie!
that's what i like about ghotbi: he makes everything into a positive to give his players, media and the fans a positive attitude. instead of 'jar o bahs' with the media and players like the old coach.

thanks for clearing things up I agree with your analysis. Hope S Arabia beats NKorea 2-0. and Iran at least ties with SKorea with whatever score. Obviously, if N. Korea and S. Arabia tie, then, Iran must win. This is what I am afraid of.

The way S. Arabia played today

they really deserve to be 2nd. I think if S Arabia play the same way next week they will definitely beat N Korea by score of 2-0 or even better. But unfortunately, if Iran plays the same way they played against UAE, there is no way they could beat or even tie S. Korea -- no way. This S. Korean team is really impressive. Iran must Play smart and defensive against S. Korea and get the tie and hope S. Arabia would get the win by score of 2-0 or better against N Korea.

Do not have any doubt that we all hope that Iran gets to the World Cup 2010 Souri jan! The probabilities are not low. Even if we tie with S. Korea and go to the playoff we will have a great chance since we will be facing Bahrain and then New Zealand none of which are superb teams!

But we have to be technical and picky-nicky accurate in extracting the deficiencies and faults of our team melli. Because we love the team melli football, does not mean that we should praise it without reason.

Yea, it is still possible that we go to the World Cup 2010! Let's hope for it!

I think I was the only one who predicted 1-0 for Iran......nobody else said that. As I said, you guys know better the technique than me. I just  watch the game and enjoy :) Don't know nothing about soccer. You maybe right.  Still, I wish the best for team Melli to enter to the World Cup. Even if they don't win, but it is a big step for them getting there. And please take note that each time I use the word delusional, it's not about you :). This time I really didn't mean you dear.

Would you please explain this why Iran will go to playoff? Both Iran and N. Korea will have 11 points and N. korea will have a better goal difference unless iran beat SKorea. Am I missing something?

PS: yea, Karimi's goal was superb, but the team has many technical problems... The defense is not still fully reliable, the midfield with many international stars still can not function well and make the bazi-sazi correctly or fill the gaps between defense and forwards, and our strikers are weak, slow, hesitant and inaccurate!

I wasn't bored at all !

I found this was a good game, of course one should know and accept their weakness and strength. We all want Iran win, but also try to stay delusional about our team melli which has been weakened since three decades now.

As I said before, what they need is more help and more encouragement. Of course I'm not an expert and .... what do I know?

My Analysis

Iran's performance was (compared to Asia's top teams) very poor. Iran's problems are:

1) The 4-2-3-1 system doesn't promise success like 4-1-3-2 or 4-3-3 (no team in the history of football has won a major tournament with this system).

2) Generally the quality of the players isn't that high.

3) Against UAE the defenders faced no challenges, but against a stronger offence they have many problems.

4) The midfielders work to rule, I miss the passion, the risk. And they keep the ball too long.

5) Don't we have better strikers with Iranian citizenship?

کار گروهی ما خوب نبود. تیم ایران روان بازی نمی کند.
گو اینکه بعضا خوب ظاهر شد ولی در مجموع کند و کم دقت بازی کردیم.

این تیم نسبت به تیمهای چند سال قبل پایین تر بازی میکند. شاید اگر قطبی وقت بیشتری داشت کار تیم بهتر بود.

کعبی خوب ظاهر شد و مدافعین بهتر بودند ولی هنوز فاصلهء خط هافبک با دفاع زیاد است. وسط زمین ما خالی است.

شجاعی خوب نبود و یک گل مسلم را از دست داد. برهانی هم ضعیف کار کرد.

برای برد جلوی کره جنوبی باید بازیکنان در بهترین روزهای خود باشند و تیم ایران جادویی بازی کند!

گویا تاریخ بازی با کره چهارشنبهء دیگر است. اگر کسی اطلاعات دقیق برای زمان بازی ایران و کره و عرب و کره شمالی بدست آورد لطفا همین جا اطلاع دهد.

the only way that iran will be tied with another team (n. korea) on points (11) is if s. arabia beats north korea and iran ties s. korea.

it's true: if s. arabia beats n. korea 2-1 and iran ties s.korea 0-0; then, n. korea will have a total of 8 goals scored while iran will have a total of 7 goals scored eliminating iran. however, if iran ties 1-1 (or n. korea gets beaten by more than 1 goal); n. korea is eliminated.

so add to my previous scenario: if s. arabia wins, then iran has to tie s. korea and score at least as many goals as n. korea.

Please be careful, the goal difference can matter: For FIFA World Cup qualifying stages the method used for eparating teams level on points is the same for all Confederations, as decidedby FIFA themselves. If teams are even on points at the end of group play, the tied teams will be ranked by:

* goal difference in all group matches
* greater number of goals scored in all group matches greater
* number of points obtained in matches between the tied teams
* goal difference in matches between the tied teams greater
* number of goals scored in matches between the tied teams
* drawing of lots, or a play-off (if approved by FIFA)

So e.g. a 0:0 tie against South Korea and Saudi Arabia's 2:1 win against North Korea brings Iran only to the 4th place in the group.

The game between South Korea and S Arabia is not in Arabestan it is in S. Korea which is a good news for us.

Now just let us hope

that SKorea beat SArabia by 1 point or more. If that happen SArabia will reamian at 10 points with goal difference of -1. Iran now has 10 points with goal difference of +1. NKorea has 11 points with goal difference of +2.

OK----- lets see what needs to happen for Iran to go on to playoff or directly qualify:

1- Playoff:

If SArabia beat NKorea by 1 point, then Iran must tie with SKorea. In this case SArabia will have 13 points for 2nd place, NKorea will remain at 11 points with goal difference of +1. Iran will have 11 points with goal difference of +1. Iran will go to playoff since they have defeated NKorea at home.

2- Direct qualification:

Iran must beat SKorea by 1 point and SArabia will be defeated by SKorea by 1 point but beats NKorea by 2 points (to be conservative). In this case Iran will have 13 points with goal difference of +2 and SArabia will have 13 points and goal difference of +1. Iran will be second and directly qualifies.

Please note that if SArabia in this case beat NKorea by 2 points or more Iran will only go to playoff.

I was again right in my prediction, whereas my wish for more goal for Iran. I always said, the problem of our team melli is that they are weak in khate hamleh! They put all their effort in defense, and this is their problem since a decade now.

All in all, this one was a real good game. I liked it much more than the game vs N Korea.

Another problem is that Ghotbi came too late to the scene. They could call him from the beginning, instead of leaving their destiny between the hands of Ali Daee.

Next time they will know what they should do, let's hope Ghotbi won't retire soon:)
