Yes the 3 rd case is still valid but not likely. I really think SArabia will beat NKorea and Iran would not be able to beat SKorea.

Lets be wishful and say SArabia will lose to SKorea 0-1 and beat NKorea 2-0 to get a total point of 13 and goal difference of +1. If Iran beat UAE by 1 point and beat SKorea by 1 point iran will have 13 points total and goal difference of +2 --- Iran will automatically qualify as second place and it does not Mather that SArabia has beaten Iran in Azadi.

Mehman jan, in your last blog I didn't realize that in the case of tie between two teams, first they look at goal difference and then they look to see who beat who.

If iran beat UAE by only 1 points and just tie with SKorea the total points for iran will be 11 points and the Goal Diffrece will be +1 then if SArabia beat Nkorea by only 1 point, NKorea total points will remain 11 points with goal difference of +1----Iran will be 3rd place because they beat NKorea at Azadi.

I think the best Iran can do is 3rd place as I described above.

i don't think we'll lose to emarat. my wishful thinking is iran 3 - 1 emarat; but even if it's iran 2 - 1 emarat (realistic).

i'm a wishful thinker for a draw in seoul (at least the way we and the koreans have been playing so far).  let's say you're right: s. korea 3 - 1 iran.

now if s. korea beats s. arabia 2 -1 (plausible), and north korea beats s. arabia 2-1 (wishful thinking), then we'll go to the playoffs.

i might be sucking on somagh for four years but if i was you i wait for one more day. ;)

Prediction vs Wish

I think most people here confuse prediction with their wishes. We all wish that Iran goes to World cup by qualifying, but I doubt it. I am gonna go on a limb here and start a fire:

Iran 1 - UAE 2
Iran 1 - S.Korea 3

We will be sucking on Somagh for another 4 year. Giddy up.

I said Let's keep it real based on the performace that we have seen so far from our bacheha. This team is not going to score big time against teams that appear a little tougher than Indonesia or any other teams at the same level, because let's face it , we don't have that many players who can finish the job and score when facing a semi-strong defensive line. Of course exceptions and miracles do happen, but this is based on the facts that i have seen in every game since january. Besides, despite their bright execution against north korea, our defense is still in need of some minor repairs...

contrary to the title of the article I think it is not that bad for us that goal difference matters, since we can have more stimulus to trounce UAE, hopefully!

i'm not going to count on south korea to take it easy on iran and i hope we salvage at least a tie with them.

then, if saudi arabia beats north korea (plausible) and iran beats emarat (plausible), iran ends up tying n. korea for third at 11 points each and move to playoff based on either goal difference or head-to-head result (if goal difference is the same).

here's a scenario where iran's goal difference would be the same wit n. korea:

iran 2 - 1 emarat

saudi arabia 2 - 1 n. korea

iran 1 - 1 s. korea

s. korea/s. arabia result would be irrelevant considering this scenario; they both would advance as the top two in the group.

My guess

Iran will beat UAE 

Iran 2- UAE 0 ------> %90

Iran 1- UAE 0 ------> %75

It IS Possible!

I think we can do better than winning UAE and tying with S. Korea.

We should  beat UAE for sure and we will do that (otherwise we deserve hell!) and remember S. Korea has already qualified for the world cup and they wouldn't mind to eliminate N. Korea (due to some political tensions), plus Iran if in need of playing well, does play well and if Iran makes a rare nice play she can appear very well, and we have seen this occasionally from Iran in the past 11 years at least (since 1998).

So let's keep up hopes and pray for a double win against UAE and S. Korea!

Iran CAN beat South Korea

By the time that Iran plays S Korea, if they have beaten S Arabia (which might be a hard task, since Saudis are playing well) then Iran can beat S Korea. South Korean most probably would take it easy and won't put their best players in to cut the risk of injuries. They would not care about that game.

Iran should beat UAE 3-0

S Korea Beat Saudi

Iran will beat S Korea.

On the other side of the equation, we all know that nothing is that simple with the Iranian team, so anything goes ;)

Let's keep it real

The best we can hope for is a Tie with S. korea and a win against UAE. i hope that UAE does not play the "brotherhood with Saudis" card in this game and just accept their fate.

Funny thing is that even if we don't win against UAE

we are still alive if we tie them. But, we must beat South Korea and SAarabia must beat NKorea for Iran to get 3rd place.
