Cyrus tomb repair resumes
Sat, 28 Apr 2007 22:22:59
The restoration team of the tomb of Cyrus the Great and Pasargadae has resumed their work after months of delay due to the cold weather.

The team must replace the stones of the ceiling with some new smaller pieces which will be brought from neighboring Sivand quarry, the head of the team Hassan Rahsaz told CHN on Saturday.

"If everything goes well, we will be able to remove the scaffold which has been installed around Cyrus' tomb since last year to support the construction from rain and snow," he added.

According to Rahsaz, the group renovated all dovetail joints of the tomb's ceiling where possible.

“About 200 meters of canals of Pasargadae Royal Garden have also been restored so far leading to the revival of the world heritage site," he noted.

The project was initiated by Parse and Pasargadae Research Center in Fars Province last year in an effort to save the most wonderful historical monuments in Iran and is expected to be finished in 6 or 7 months.

One of the most interesting features of the tomb is the entrance doorway which has been constructed to face the sunset, which highlights the fact that Cyrus loved the twilight view.

Located 70 kilometers north of Persepolis in the Iranian Fars province, Pasargadae was the oldest capital of the ancient Achaemenid Empire (550-330 BC), built by the founder of this dynasty, King Cyrus the Great.

The region was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005.
I think better one asks for example by UNESCO about what is really happend before making ones mind. May be UNESCO knows nothing abput this restauration because it is not performed? Or may be.......well. However the an agreement with UNESCO about tghe"affaire" of SIVAND DAM had been made allready monthes earlier. so that one can assume: Nothing is lost. Greeting

Using buldusor,to destroy what ever treathens them is the specialty of clergy in Iran they have done the samr thing to our (Bahai ) holly places, and now they are doing the same thing to our cemetaries in smaller cities, since they did that right after their dark revolution in Tehran .

These ignorant clergy think that they can take away the greatness of something by physically removing it!!!Alas they are physically in Iran but out of Masses heart!!!!!!

While the Islamic Republic tries to immerse IRan into swamp of Middle Ages, the Arab countries move forward and are building The world's first carbon-neutral city will be built in Abu Dhabi, the largest of seven states comprising the oil-rich United Arab Emirates (UAE). A car-free, zero-waste metropolis, Masdar--Arabic for source--will house up to 50,000 people. It will run entirely on renewable energy, especially solar power, and save the equivalent of $2 billion in oil over 25 years.

The Masdar Institute is a non-profit, independent entity established with the assistance of the world- renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), under a cooperative agreement signed in December 2006. MIT is assisting the Masdar Institute to emulate its own standards of excellence in Abu Dhabi, and to become a regional engine for technology-driven growth by combining local cutting-edge research with high-caliber graduate education.
