Big Apple Daily:

Andrew Embiricos, the grandson of movie star Rita Hayworth, was found dead in an apparent suicide in his Chelsea apartment last Sunday.
According to reports, 25-year-old Embiricos was found bya friend in his Chelsea apartment with a plastic bag over his head. A toxicology report is pending.

Rita Hayworth’s and Prince Aly Khan’s grandson had been battling a long and difficult drug addiction and had previously attempted suicide before he died after an apparent suicide in his Manhattan apartment on Sunday.

According to a friend, Andrew Ali Aga Khan Embiricos - who was the grandson of the silver-screen legend - had been in and out of drug rehab over the past few years though seemed in good spirits in the days leading up to his death.

He was found lying on his bed in his Chelsea apartment after apparently suffocating himself with a plastic bag. An investigation is under way.

The New York Medical Examiner’s Office said today is investigating the cause of death of Rita Hayworth’s grandson, Andrew Embiricos, who was found dead Sunday with a plastic bag over his head. A spokesperson for the medical examiner’s office told ABCNews.com the case was still “pending” and declined to speculate whether it was a suicide.

The 25-year-old was found face-up in his bed with a plastic bag over his head. A friend went to check on him after he missed several appointments, according to the New York Daily News.

Those who knew Embiricos said it might not be a suicide.

“Andrew was extremely kinky. Isn’t it possible that Andrew was experimenting with autoerotric asphyxiation?” Michael Musto, a Village Voice blogger wrote Monday night. He added that Embiricos did not leave a suicide note.

The two knew each other for five years, Musto told ABCNews.com.

“He always seemed sunny and charming regardless of the crises he was weathering. I always felt he was rebelling against the properness inherent in being a celebrity by birth while also striving to get on the right track and do well by people he cared about,” he said.

Embiricos had faced quite a few challenges.

He was HIV positive, had been in and out of drug rehab and had attempted suicide in the past, according to Musto.

But things were looking up for him.

“Andrew liked his job and was making plans for a trip, so this came as a horrible surprise,” Musto said.

Embiricos graduated from Fordham University with a degreein psychology. He most recently worked as a sales executive with Virgin Atlantic Airways, according to his LinkedIn account.

Along with his mother, Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, 61, hewas deeply involved with the Alzheimer’s Association.
His grandmother, the actress Rita Hayworth, succumbed to the disease in1987.While attending school, Embiricos founded a Facebook group that collected clothing for New York City’s homeless. He also remained active in HIV/AIDs charities, according to his website.

HOLLYWOOD ICON AND SEX SYMBOL

*********************************************

*********************************************

Rita Hayworth - who was born Margarita Carmen Cansino in 1918 - rose to international fame in the 1940s and 1950s as one of Hollywood's sexiest and most iconic 'femme fatales'. Rita got married 5 times, first with Edward Charles Judson (1937–1942), Orson Welles (1943- 1948) father of her first child Rebecca Welles who died in 2004, Prince Aly Khan (1949–1953) from this marriage she gave birth to her daughter Princess Yasmin Aga Khan now 62. Listed as one of the American Film Institute's Greatest Stars of All Time, the actress and dancer appeared in 61 films over 37 years and is known as one of the era's top stars and the first actress to have starred alongside both Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, to a Spanish-born dancer and a Ziegfield showgirl, she was dancing professionally from the age of 12 before being spotted by a Fox producer three years later.

She appeared in a number of non-notable roles in minor movies and it wasn't until she was signed up by Columbia pictures did her career take off.

Executives at Columbia argued her image was too much of a Mediterranean style, bringing stereotypically 'exotic and foreign' roles.

After undergoing electrolysis to broaden the appearance of her forehead and raise her hairline, and transforming into a redhead, she became Rita Hayworth and thus areflection of the classic American pinup almost overnight.

Hayworth was the epitome of Hollywood glamour and feminism, as well as a stunningly beautiful actress and dancer. In person however, the screen siren was said to have been a shy, quiet and unassuming young woman who craved domestic bliss - afar cry from the sexual charisma she exuded on camera.
