"The American discussion about Iran has lost all connection to reality. "

Excellet, excellent article. I've read some of Fareed Zakaria's articles and his appearances on TV. I must state that none of them were as to the point as this article. Of course warmongers and neocons will try to trash this point of view. I believe this should be one of the front running talking points.

We've all seen when a politician talks about Nazi and Hitler and compares it to something or someone else, he or she usually has to recant and apologize. So much so that talking heads on TV recommended no one compares Hitler again. But not in this case. Comparing Iran to Nazi Germany and Hitler is free for all and a talking point.

Definition of apologist?

by Anonymouse on

Calling people an "apologist" for IRI is another talking point that doesn't mean anything.  IRI is the legitimate representative of Iranian people. It is not be the best representative, but it is the legal representative.  You negotiate with them not questionable other Iranian representatives, like Talabi in Iraq.

50% of American people didn't vote for Bush and his approval rating is something like 29%.  Does that mean that Bush or his Government is not the American people's representative?

Of course IRI has plenty of bad things.  They don't need anyone to apologize for them.   Just recognize that speaking against war or bombing Iran is not apologizing for IRI.

Farokh,
I could not have said it better myself. Iranians and Americans are being fed crap only the method is different. However Americans think they have a free media while Iranians know there is censorship.

American Media

by farokh2000 on

I cancelled my subscriptions to all National Papers shortly after 2000, when it became clear that the entire Media was taken over by the new Administration and their dogs.

The fact is that both Mullahs and the morons in DC have total control of their Media and use them and abuse them towards their evil goals, i.e., brain washing their people.

The only thing different is the methods they use.

American media has lost it's Mojo

by Anonymouse on

This is a free pass by American media.  It is amazing that after such a disaster in Iraq that we see every day, they're still comfortable letting these comparisons go by and say nothing.  It's like they've given up and just waiting for another war to start so they can cover it.  Even the most anti-war reporters don't seem to have any mojo left.

When convenient . . . many have been compared to . . .

by Mohammad Ala on

When convenient, the U.S. and Israel have compared many people to Hitler.  The list is rather long, but here are a few: Jamal Abdul Nasser, Moamer Khazafi, R. Khomeini, Saddam Hussein, and now Ahmadinejad.

The following is interesting comparison by Mr. Pourkesali.

Politicians do slip every once in while when being candid and may occasionally let out the truth when speaking off the record. At a press conference [1] in Cairo on Feb 24, 2001 then Secretary of State Colin Powell talking about the positive effects of sanctions against the Iraqi government said: "Frankly they have worked. Saddam Hussein has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project any conventional power against his neighbors. So in effect, our policies have strengthened the security of the neighbors of Iraq".

Compare that with the speech he gave at the UN [2] two years later when he dutifully delivered his masters line by stating "we have no indication Saddam Hussein has ever abandoned his nuclear weapons program", and that "we have more than a decade of proof that he remains determined to acquire nuclear weapons and that Saddam already possesses two out of the three key components needed to build a nuclear bomb".  He even showed slides where WMD was located.

We know now that the UN dog and pony show was all a shameful lie. How a country like Iraq under severe sanctions goes from one that does not even pose a conventional threat to its neighbors to one that is an imminent threat to the United States was beyond any sane person's comprehension then as is the portrayal of Iran posing a global threat now.[1] //www.state.gov/secretary/former/powell/remarks/2001

Farid Zakaria is a kiss-ass pakistani or Indian (not sure)

by Miz-abdol-azim khaneh Ghareeb (not verified) on

who is always taking a position to make Iran look bad. Several times I have contacted him to respond to a question and he always evades.

Any kiss-ass can get a job with Time or Newsweek Magazines if they know how to kiss the right spot on AIPAC's ass.

If you don't believe me send him an email, contact him by mail or send a commentary. Freakin asss hole!
