Cyrus the Great is much talked about in cyberspace these days. Recently a poem said to be his has gone viral. Below you will find the poem in Persian and my English translation.

If I were a prophet!

Making people happy would be my prophecy,
Liberating them, my message,
Making children laugh my miracle,

If I were a prophet!

Scaring people of Hell, I would not
Nor promising of Heaven
Good thinking and being a good human
Would be all I would’ve taught

If I were a prophet!

Don’t be afraid of death
Be afraid of dying from inside
While you are still alive
Would be my only advice
If I were a prophet!

Translated by
Mahvash Shahegh

How is Cyrus, one of the

by Iran 2050 on

How is Cyrus, one of the greatest conquerors of all time, a “liberator”??? How can you be a “conqueror” and a “liberator” at the same time? Or is it because he freed the Jews from one slavery onto his own rule? Using that logic (lack there of, Bush is one of the greatest liberators of all time, and so was the Red Army who freed Germans from Nazis, and Khomeini who freed Iran from Shah’s rule? It’s amazing how we have been so brainwashed that we can’t fathom what logic is anymore!! We have been injected with worshiping history and the past and trying to recreate the past that we have no clue where we are and where we need to go!

Cyrus is just another kings, there have been good kings and there have been bad kings, but at the end of the day, they are all nothing but “kings”, therefore, for the sake of us as Iranians inject objectivity and logic and empirical thinking into our society in order to build a better future for Iran, LETS STOP CALLING HIM A LIBERATOR!!!!

Thought

Thought asks for what age

by Thought on

All concepts of words change by time. Thought reminds the poet that making people happy only works if what makes the author happy matches "the people".

Thought believes that stay away from being a prophet and remain a good, logical, and helpful person. Thought agrees that there are no small roles in acting human.

We reap what we sow ...  heaven or hell is our own creation and both do exist.
