BBC: The younger son of the Shah of Iran, Prince Alireza Pahlavi, has killed himself in the US after a long battle with depression, his brother says. Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi said family and friends had been plunged into "great sorrow" at news of the death. "It is with immense grief that we would like to inform our compatriots of the passing away of Prince Alireza Pahlavi," he said in a statement. Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was ousted in Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution. See related blog

Deepest and most sincere
by Arthimis on Tue Jan 04, 2011 04:12 PM PSTDeepest and most sincere heart felt condolences to Shahbanoo, entire Pahlavi family and True Iranians! It's a very tragic loss for all of us... May he rest in peace finally after so many years of tragic experiences felt by him and million of Iranians since the betrayal of his father and all the other tragic consequences that have followed us all to this day, this dark chapter of Iranian history. He is with his father and sister now, hopefully in eternal peace.
Free Iran and Iranians.

by Tavana on Tue Jan 04, 2011 03:53 PM PST100% with you & in support of your comments. When Shah & his family were running away from IRAN like traitors, they never thought what was in future for them. Now every one sees the fruits of their crimes/treacheries. Does condolence have any meaning for Con-dull-no-sense????

by Everybody Loves Somebody ... on Tue Jan 04, 2011 03:35 PM PSTwhen it comes to deletion policies of offensive and assailing comments! Attacking the members of a family of a dead person is NOT considered offensive and grotesque according to the standards and criteria set by these barbarics! Simply because they are the Pahlavi family. SHAME ON IC!

by Marjan Zahed Kindersley on Tue Jan 04, 2011 03:41 PM PSTWhere were my SINCERE condolecences for Hoveyda? Bakhtiar? Or those many whose lives I'd put in jeopardy just by mentioning their intitials, who were just thrown out there?
Those who were thrown like absolute lambs to the wolves? Where?
Where were the condolences ? !!!???? !!!
What family??? The family that didn't help this young man? EVEN THEIR OWN! And that's the second one!
What condolescences?
MZK, where is your humanity?
by Behnam Nik on Tue Jan 04, 2011 03:27 PM PSTEven if all you say is true, where is your humanity and compassion? No mother, brother, sister and family deserves to witness such tragic loss of dear ones. He was just a child in 1979 and was just an innocent victim of circumstances like thousands upon thousands of Iranians.
RIP .. very sad news indeed
by marmar on Tue Jan 04, 2011 03:24 PM PSTI think it is quite a shame that people can still hate the Pahlavi in this day and age…If you look at Iran’s history for the past 100 years, the Pahlavis were heroes.
31 years after this brutal revolution, even many ‘leftists’ have realized that the Shah was a good man that really loved his country. Look at Iran today, do you feel any « love » ?
So yes, my deepest condolences to Reza Shah The Great's descendants

My condolences to the Pahlavi family
by MM on Tue Jan 04, 2011 02:54 PM PSTThe news articles state that Alireza was extremely disturbed by the events in Iran. Alireza was a student of the ancient Iran and he will be missed by Iranians as well as his beloved family. As JJ said, nn innocent victim of terrible circumstances.
While extremely sad, I hope that Alireza's passing will be a launching point for actions that brings democracy to Iran.
