The Story of Mohammad

The revolutionary, warrior and sovereign

The Story of Mohammad
by Arash Monzavi-Kia

As it was customary among the wealthy Arabs of Mecca, the new born Mohammad was given to a Bedouin nanny to breast-feed him in her tribe’s campground outside the town. Zarrin Koob attributes that separation to the fact that Mecca was so filthy and decease-ridden at the time that most kids would have died, if they were kept there at an early age. So the prophet spent his first years among the Bedouin tribes and in the wild and fresh air of the desert.

Mohammad was very young when his father passed away and his custody (based on Semitic traditions) went to his grandfather, and upon his death, to his uncle. In the brutish city of Mecca, the orphaned Mohammad was treated roughly by the other kids who were better off, and was constantly reminded of his poverty and loneliness. Nevertheless, he grew up to be a hardworking, honest and thoughtful young man, very employable in the service of the Mecca traders.

Back then, the Roman trade with Far East (mostly India) had been disrupted by the century old Persian-Roman wars. Therefore, some of that trade was rechanneled through Yemen, Mecca and Syria. It was a lucrative operation for the Arab warlords who would organize and protect the safe passage of the caravans to the East Roman Empire (Byzantine).

Mohammad worked for nearly a decade in the Roman trade route and became very familiar with both the Christian and the Jewish traditions of the Near East. As an intelligent young man, although illiterate, he absorbed most of the biblical stories, which put his life in a much more appealing prospective. He found solace in the hardship stories of Job and Moses, but perhaps was most influenced by Abraham, a Semitic prophet who recanted his own town and traditions, to build a new Utopia and create a new way of life.

At the age of 40, after marrying a wealthy business woman, Mohammad found some spare time to contemplate his past and future, his beliefs and doubts. Like some other contemporary mystics of Mecca, he started frequenting the caves outside town, fasting and praying to the god for guidance. He finally claimed that an angle of god had spoken to him, and had read him a book (Koran) which would put the affairs of all mankind, including the Arabs, the Jews, the Persians and the Christians, in order!

That message was first tried on his wife and close relatives, with partial success. A handful of them accepted that the honest Mohammad was not lying, and that the incredible verses he was reciting were miraculous and could not be the work of an illiterate man. Soon, the prophet said that god had asked him to openly summon all the people of Mecca to the new faith. But the tough and cynical men of Mecca laughed at Mohammad’s calls to brotherhood, monotheism and observance of what seemed like the Jewish rituals. Even the Jewish rabbis criticized his inadequate knowledge of the biblical traditions and mistakes in reciting their stories as part of a new testament.

The laughter and the criticism made Mohammad upset and angry enough, to start confronting the prominent townspeople with daily repudiation of their barbaric manners. In response, the Mecca nobility boycotted his business, openly disowned him and even encouraged the street kids to ridicule and stone him. Poor and desperate, the prophet then concentrated his message towards the disadvantaged of Mecca, the deprived and the slaves. He not only promised them freedom and hope, but also the Abraham god’s pledge that ‘the meek would inherit the earth’!

When the Mecca upper class was confronted with the specter of a slave uprising, they killed some of the rebellious poor, confiscated Muslims’ properties and banished Mohammad and his followers to the outskirts of the city. Pained and worried that the fickle flame of his calling would die in such hardship, Mohammad sent messengers far and wide. The people of Yathrib (later called the Medina or city of prophet) gave him refuge, and became his base to fight the aristocracy of Mecca.

From his base in Medina, Mohammad encouraged and organized his followers to revenge on the Meccans, who had earlier confiscated their belongings. This started years of looting of the Mecca caravans that had to pass Medina on route to Syria, and back. In reply, the Mecca warlords organized much bigger trade missions that could be guarded more effectively. This in turn encouraged the now militaristically organized Muslims to engage in open combat with the Meccans who were accompanied by large sums of money and goods.

The rich and powerful of Mecca lost their first famed battle (Badr) to the Muslims, because they had grossly underestimated the ragtag party of Mohammad. The true strength of Mohammad’s faith was the open-door policy and merit-based hierarchy. If you wanted in, well, you were in, without any tribal or racial barriers. And if you were any good, you could get command, without prejudice and bias. In addition, most of the followers ‘had nothing to lose but their chains’ (as Karl Marx rediscovered later), and had a lot to gain by attacking and defeating the pampered, pompous and disorganized aristocracy.

His first relatively easy victories made Mohammad both jubilant and gracious. He would be forgiving even towards his tormenters (the Mecca rich) and his ridiculers (the Jewish tribes). However, soon the opposition woke up under the leadership of Mohammad’s own grandfather tribe (Ghoraish), and organized successful campaigns (like Uhud) against the Muslims. Many of Mohammad’s family and friends were killed, and he was himself injured.

But neither the bloody defeat of Uhud, nor the subsequent siege of Medina (war of Khandagh) could break the back of Mohammad’s uprising. In the face of diminished loots and proceeds of war, the prophet promised eternal heaven to his battle-wary followers, where ‘streams of milk and honey’ would quench their thirst and ‘flocks of young virgins’ would satisfy their desires. At a more practical level, Mohammad resorted to such Persian-Roman war veterans like Salomon the Farsi, who taught the latest war techniques to Muslims. He also started a campaign of intimidation against all the Ghoraish allies, including the neighboring Jewish tribes, starting with the threat of force and concluding with their massacre and total annihilation.

Against the undefeated rich and powerful of Mecca, Mohammad the war-strategist concluded a balanced peace treaty, which among other things, allowed him and his followers to visit Mecca and its famed cubic temple once a year during the pilgrimage. The cubic temple of Mecca (Kaaba) was a traditional holy site for the idolater Arabs, where each tribe used to keep its god’s symbol (idol) for protection, and then visit it once a year. The annual pilgrimage was supposed to be a time of peace, and the tribesmen were only allowed to enter Mecca without their weapons.

Initially, Mohammad had forfeited the holiness of Mecca and Kaaba, in favor of the Jewish holy town of Jerusalem. However, in face of bitter struggles with the neighboring Jewish tribes, and in order to gain favors with the Arab tribes who worshiped Kaaba, Mohammad changed the Muslim point of prayer. Then next year, the Muslims returned to Mecca for pilgrimage and show-of-force, chanting: ‘no god but Allah’. However, they did not otherwise force the issue on the Meccans. Allah being one of the chief existing gods in Kaaba, the message started to sink in.

The simple unifying message of ‘no god but Allah’ appealed to the disjointed Arab tribes who could finally see a chance for unity and nationhood. The most powerful of them appealed to Mohammad to also accept the legitimacy and holiness of four highly regarded idols in the Kaaba, as a precondition for them to join the Muslims. Upon reflection, Mohammad accepted and uttered verses which praised the four idols of Kaaba as holy and legitimate. However, the next day, he changed heart and recanted that acceptance as the Satanic Verses, which apparently the devil had whispered into his ears!

Next year, during the pilgrimage to Mecca, Mohammad summoned 10,000 armed Muslims to converge on the city. He reneged on the peace treaty and gave two options to the Meccans, Islam (submission) or war! However, when the rich and powerful of Mecca submitted, Mohammad was again gracious and allowed them full amnesty, and even notable positions in his armed forces and governmental organization. There and then, the prophet’s journey from revolutionary to sovereign was complete!

Reading Mohammad’s life, one can find so many similarities between him and the other revolutionaries, who tried to change the world but world, changed them. Mohammad being an actual person (unlike such mythical characters like Moses and Jesus with no direct historical confirmation), is so real and flesh-and-blood that we can easily see his similarities with many other revolutionaries everywhere and even down to our own time (Cromwell, Robespierre, Lenin, Mao and even Khomeini).

At the end, no story is luscious without a bit of rumor. In Islamic tradition, it is known that the first wife of Mohammad (Khadijeh) was the first Muslim believer, and that the prophet did not marry anyone else (although Khadijeh was 15 years his senior) as long as she was living. Apparently, it was Khadijeh who proposed marriage (so 21st century) to the then shy Mohammad (a 25 year-old bachelor in her employment). It is also reported that Khadijeh was of a monotheistic family (Hanifian), who are rumored to have been Jewish. Now, based on most Jewish traditions, even if a person born into the faith recants Judaism, they are still considered a Jew. More interestingly, Jewish lineage is a maternal one, going from mothers to offspring. Therefore, deliciously enough, that can make Khadijeh, her daughter Fatima and even her grandson Hossein, all Jewish! Not that there is anything wrong with it!

Thank you for taking the time and writing a biography that contains more info than I had before. Especially there were the aspects of the time period and the place that I was not aware of...

As for the comments below, I remembered something a friend of mine said once: I don't care what kind of rock you worship as long as you do not throw it at me.

So whether muslim or jewish or christian or a rock worshiper or even a non-believer, I would appreciate people not trying to force their belief on me as right as they might be...

The author had his reasons not to display all aspects of Muhammad, but opened up a forum of discussion.

In a spirit of interfaith dialogue ( ijtihad), Some "reformist" Islamists had an opportunity to prove that any such allegations of violenc, hatred, intolerance are wrong that Islam is a religion of the "peaceful, and merciful" Allah.

We witnessed the opposite, Khatami's presidency coincided with Chained Killings, curbing of student movement, many other executions, and the continuity of Islamist brutality. We witnessed a "reformist" Islam which does not rise to such a peaceful rule for clear self-definition but is seen as slipping backward into the false definitions and perversions now being perpetrated by Khomeini or a pseudo-reformist Khatami

Islamic doctrine of hatred and suicide mass murder, should not merely be called "The Al Qaeda Apostasy!"

It is anywhere and anytime, from Muhammad to Ruhallah-al-Mosavi-al Khomeini and down to his offspring, Khatami.

Since any semblance of an accusation that Islam might be inherently violent is being so sharply taboo, a far greater outrage should now be erupting within Iranian people toward those in dar-al-Islam who hier the legacy of world islamisation.

From Muhammed to Khomeini, the religion is nothing but a killing machine, a perpetual killing machine of many millions of "infidels.'

What wonderful Folklore!

by eroonman on

You should make a movie about Mohammad, Ooops you can't...

Regardless of this "sweet tale", in the end of the debate and discussion, we arrive at the same unfortunate place where all these bed time stories end up, whether Zoroastrian, Buddhist, Jewish, Christian, and the latest modern equivalent Eslam, which is this; after all has been said, there is still absolutley no relevant, undeniable, empirical, evidence whatsoever of the proof of God's existence, as evidenced by his own hand.

In the end, it is all entirely, complete heresay. The claim by the advertisers who sell the product of religion, that to question heresay is heresy, is merely the convenient and obviously foisted intellectual property copyright infringement penalty, used to scare and quash any mention of the real weakness in the general argument.

The innocent desire of people to hope for a God, completely understandable, in the wake of the enormity of the universe and man's smaller than a speck role in it. And for that, religion is a great emotional crutch. But to suggest it is anything other than a source of momentary solace, is silly. Especially if you carry a cellphone.

You're right.  Typical history denying, head in the sand, bully Islamic goon.  Too bad there was no "Hustler" at the time of "Gina lolo"'s Prophet.  Maybe that would have saved some chidlren from the cruel faith of being his personal sex toy by allowing Mohamed to release some of his sexual urges through it.

It is also important to note that Mohamed's misconduct and mischief was not limited to the sex acts.  There are many other aspects of his character that reveal a man obsessed with political and military power.  In fact, Mohamed used Islam (which by the way, also means "surrender" (a military term) in Arabic) as a tool.  His main concern was political control.  If one studies the real Mohamed's conquest in historical terms, one can see Mohamed's objectives clearly.  For example, contrary to the poplular Islamic propoganda, after he took over Mecca, he made peace with some of the idol worshipping tribes, who had not yet converted to Islam (and allowed them to continue worshipping their idols) in exchange for their allegiance.  Moreover, in order to further satisfy those tribes, he incorporated many of their pagan practices and rituals, which was their main source of income---such the annual Hajj pilgrimage--into Islam so that they could continue to benefit from the revenue that was brought in by visting nations.  He simply did not have the military power at that time to completely subdue his rivals.  So, he had to compromise and make peace with them so that he can have the political control that he wanted.

You do not have to go far to see evidence of this.  Just watch the famous 1970's international movie "The Message", and you will see that Hajj--in the form of an annual pilgrimage to Mecca for religious reasons by pagans--is a pre-Islam pagan tradition.  So, this whole idea of Mohamed being and "idol smasher" is pure fantasy. In fact, if you read the accounts of Arab's battles against the Persians, which took place decades after Mohamed's death, you will also see that a great number of Arab fighters in those battles were not even Muslims, but rather idol worshipping Arab tribesmen who were there to fight for the promise of war, so much for the whole fantasy of a great liberating religions for which people (even Arabs themselves) were falling over each other to convert to!

The Sex Obsessed Pervert

by Anonymous Observer on

Mohamed was a sex obsessed pervert whose main goal in life was to get laid as much as possible.  He was smart, though (smart as in Hitler smart).  The reason why he did not marry (actually "marry" is too good of a word..."had sex" or raped are probably more appropriate words) any other woman before Khadija's death was because he was scared sh**tless of Khadija as she had control over that he needed to pursue his political agenda.  But, boy, once Khadija died...the orgy started.  The man was a walking sex machine.  He couldn't even pass on a 9 year old.  Here are some quotes from Islamic scholars and the Arab version of Kama Sutra: the Quran. No need to watch porn today.... enjoy!

Bukhari,Volume 1, Book 5, Number 268:

“Prophet was given the strength (sexual) of thirty men”.

Apostle could make love (continuously) to all his wives (9 to 11) in one night.

Volume 1, Book 5, Number 268:

"The Prophet used to visit all his wives in a round, during the day and night and they were eleven in number. Prophet was given the strength of thirty (men)."

Bukhari,Volume 7, Book 62, Number 6:

The Prophet used to go round (have sexual relations with) all his wives in one night

Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 5, Number 270:

Aisha said, "I scented Allah's Apostle and he went round (had sexual intercourse with) all his wives."

Bukhari Volume 4, Book 52, Number 74i:

He even brough Gebril into his sick child molesting fanatsies:

His lovemaking was complimented by visits of archangel Gibraeel. Once apostle even introduced Gibraeel to Ayesha. Ordinary mortals cannot see angels, needless to say she was clueless and could not see him.

Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 57, Number 112:

Narrated Abu Salama:

'Aisha said, "Once Allah's Apostle said (to me), 'O Aish ('Aisha)! This is Gabriel greeting you.' I said, 'Peace and Allah's Mercy and Blessings be on him, you see what I don't see' " She was addressing Allah 's Apostle.

Apostle’s love making was outstanding and was watched (and admired) by all his wives....

Bukhari, Book 008, Number 3450:

Anas (Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) had nine wives. They (all the wives) used to gather every night in the house of one where he had to come (and stay that night).

He even had an audience.

Bukhari , Volume 9, Book 83, Number 38a:

A man peeped into one of the dwelling places of the Prophet.

Muslim, Book 025, Number 5369:

Anas b. Malik reported that a person peeped in some of the holes (in the doors) of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him).

Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 83, Number 38:

Narrated Sahl bin Sa'd As-Sa'idi:

A man peeped through a hole in the door of Allah's Apostle's house,

Allah not only gave him extraordinary capability for sexual activity but also gave him special privileges to use those capabilities.

.Q33.50 : O Prophet! In addition to all your wives, slave girls and captured women, we have made lawful to you all your first cousins and any believing woman if she gave herself to you, and if you desire her.

Allah blessed his lovemaking with divine inspirations afterwards.

Tabari Vl7, page :7 Ayesha said “Inspiration came to him when he and I were in a single blanket”.

Bukhari Vol 5 Bk57 N 119

Prophet said, By Allah, the Divine Inspiration never came to me while I was under the blanket of any woman except Aesha.”

He was a stud around Mecca.

Apostle got solicitated by hot women all the time (apparently by the publicity of his greatness in bed)..

Bukhari,Volume 7, Book 62, Number 24:

A woman came to Allah's Apostle and said, "O Allah's Apostle! I have come to give you myself

Bukhari,Volume 7, Book 62, Number 48:

Narrated Hisham's father:

Khaula bint Hakim was one of those ladies who presented themselves to the Prophet. 'Aisha said, "Doesn't a lady feel ashamed for presenting herself to a man?"

Bukhari,Volume 7, Book 62, Number 53:

Narrated Thabit Al-Banani:

"A woman came to Allah's Apostle and presented herself to him, saying, 'O Allah's Apostle, have you any need for me ?' "Thereupon Anas's daughter said, "What a shameless lady she was! Shame! Shame!" Anas said, "She was better than you; she had a liking for the Prophet

Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 62, Number 54:

“A woman presented herself to the Prophet.”

Bukhari,Volume 7, Book 62, Number 58:

Narrated Sahl bin Sad:

A woman came to Allah's Apostle and said, "O Allah's Apostle! I have come to you to present myself to you”

Quick Trigger.

Apostle got aroused at sight of (attractive) women.

Muslim, Book 008, Number 3240:

“Jabir reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) saw a woman, and so he came to his wife, Zainab, as she was tanning a leather and had sexual intercourse with her”.

Couldn't Even Pass on His Adopted Son's Wife!!!

One day Apostle of Allah walked into his adopted son Zaid’s house. Zaid was not there but he caught a glimpse of his voluptuous and beautiful wife Zainab (she was apostle’s first cousin) in her birthday suit.

Tabari wrote:

"One day Muhammad went out looking for Zaid. Now there was a covering of hair cloth over the doorway, but the wind had lifted the covering so that the doorway was uncovered. Zaynab was in her chamber, undressed, and admiration for her entered the heart of the Prophet".

The admiration aroused him instantly, which Zainab also noticed and mentioned it to her husband Zaid later. He rushed to his father’s house and offered Zainab to him. Mohammed worried about possible bad press and refused to accept it. But Allah will not take no for an answer and insisted on their union.

Q 33:37 We gave her (Zaid’s wife) unto thee in marriage, so that (henceforth) there may be no sin for believers in respect of wives of their adopted sons”.

Had an Eye for Employees!!!

Once he entered his wife Hafsa’s room for some reason. Hafsa was not there but he found her lovely young maid Maria instead. He grabbed her and jumped into the bed with her for a quickie. But the quickie was not quick enough and Hafsa walked in and started yelling. To quieten her down and to please her he promised never to touch her maid again. However Allah did not approve of this sacrifice and revealed the following ayas:

Q66.1 SHAKIR: O Prophet! why do you forbid (yourself) that which Allah has made lawful for you (slave girl Maria); you seek to please your wife(Hafsa)

66.2 Allah has sanctioned for you to break your promise (go sleep with Hafsa’s maid)

Sick Child Molester Was Even Aroused By Infants!!!!

Apostle was helpless because of his 30 man libido and got excited even when he saw little girls.

Ibn Ishaq: Suhayli, 2.79: In the riwaya of Yunus Ibn Ishaq recorded that the apostle saw (Ummu’l-Fadl hen she was baby crawling before him and said, ‘If she grows up and I am still alive I will marry her.’ (ref.10, p. 311)

Muhammad saw Um Habiba the daughter of Abbas while she was fatim (age of nursing) and he said, "If she grows up while I am still alive, I will marry her." (Musnad Ahmad, Number 25636)

Had Wet Dreams About Children!!!

Twice he dreamt of a little girl, the 6 year old pretty daughter of his best friend Abu Bakr. She was wrapped in a silk cloth. He uncovered the silk cloth to see more of her.

Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 62, Number 15:

Narrated 'Aisha:

Allah's Apostle said (to me), "You have been shown to me twice in (my) dreams. A man was carrying you in a silken cloth and said to me, 'This is your wife.' I uncovered it; and behold, it was you. I said to myself, 'If this dream is from Allah, He will cause it to come true.'"

Sex Obsessed

Apostle could think of having sex with his wives and it felt just like real thing..

Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 71, Number 660:

Narrated Aisha:

“Allah's Apostle used to think that he had sexual relations with his wives while he actually had not”.

More Wet Dreams

His day dreaming was so realistic that he even got wet spots on his garments . Ayesha drycleaned those spots.

Bukhari,Book 002, Number 0572:

Ayesha said “ In case I found that (semen) on the garment of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) dried up, I scraped it off with my nails”.

Still Liked To Rough Up His Child Sex Toy Once a While

Apostle was turned off instantly whenever he was suspected of shadiness.

One night Ayesha got a punch instead of getting sex because she got suspicious of his strange activities and followed him at night (without his knowledge) to a cemetery, where he stood in darkness waving his hands.

Muslimi,Book 004, Number 2127:

Ayesha narrated. "He struck me on the chest which caused me pain.”

(the hadith is too long, one can read on

There's more where that came from folks!!!

The Life of Mohammed In the

The Life of Mohammed

In the year 622 seventy-three citizens of the Arabian city of Medina came to the prophet Mohammed in Mecca and asked him to make Medina his home. Mohammed asked that they protect him with their lives. They asked what reward they would receive should they be killed in the process. He answered: paradise.

In Medina, Mohammed commissioned his lieutenants to raid passing caravans. Over a ten-year period he planned sixty-five campaigns and raids, and personally led twenty-seven of these himself. One fifth of the booty was to be allocated directly to him. Any of the raiders who died while plundering the caravans, Mohammed said, would automatically enter heaven.

In 623 Mohammed organized a band of 300 armed thieves to waylay a rich caravan bound for Mecca from Syria. A force of 900 men from Mecca hurried to defend the caravan. Mohammed personally led his followers to victory, took many prisoners, and put some of them to death.

Because Mohammed had shown a lack of mercy toward the defeated, he was reviled by many Arabs. In Medina, the renown poetess Asma criticized him in rhyming verse. One of Mohammed’s lieutenants, Omeir, made his way into the sleeping woman’s room and plunged his sword so fervently into her breast that it affixed her to the couch. In the mosque the next morning, Mohammed asked Omeir, “Hast thou slain Asma?” “Yes,” answered Omeir, “is there cause for apprehension?” “None,” said Mohammed; “a couple of goats will hardly knock there heads together for it.”

Asma was the Salman Rushdie of her day. But she was not the only literary victim under Mohammed's rule in Medina. Another poet, Afak, composed a satire about him, and was slain as he slept in his courtyard. A third poet, Kab ibn al-Ashraf, offended Mohammed by criticizing the compulsory conversion of the city’s Jews. “Who will ease me of this man?” Mohammed asked. That evening, the poet’s severed head was laid at the prophet's feet.

All these murders were justified by Mohammed under the heading of “legitimate self-defense.”

In 626 Mohammed personally led a military crusade to compel conversion of all Jews in Arabia. He accused them of corrupting the Scriptures, killing the prophets, and rejecting the Messiah. He plundered Jewish settlements in Khaibar, and killed ninety-three Jews in the process. He also captured 600 Jewish soldiers from Banu-Karaiza and demanded that they convert to his religion. When they refused, he put them to death, and sold their women and children into slavery.

In 630, Mohammed raised an army of 10,000 men, took Mecca, and set up a theocratic state. No distinction was made between secular and religious affairs; all alike came under religious jurisdiction. He proclaimed Mecca the Holy City of his religion, and decreed that no unbeliever should ever be allowed to set foot on its sacred soil. He categorically rejected the separation of church and state demanded by Christ’s dictum: “Render unto God the things that are God’s, and unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s.” Mohammed was both Caesar and Christ.
