Singing about realities

Rapper's response to Iranian TV documentary

Recently Iranian state television aired a documentrary linking rap music with devil worship, drug addiction and sexual perversion. Erfan (poeterfan.com),  one of the most famous Iranian rappers living abroad, has given his response. "Shock" documentary: part 1 -- part 2 -- part 3. Also see Nassir Mashkouri's review.

I think this kid does have a point. The problem is Iranians are so scattered in every each direction that the world of rap is probably the most distant thing from ones imagination… unless you’ve been brought up in that culture and connect with this guy.
Having said that Iranians are also horrible in public relations and getting straight to the point.

Erfans point didn’t need to be a 3-part youtube rant. He should have been more articulate and prepared for those who don’t understand him … help them listen to what he has to say. Use cue cards or something! Think about your credibility. Hip-hop’s more than a image/attitude. It’s a culture!!!

It's a culture way outside of the Iranian culture...

Damet garm erfan jan...ma javoonan bayad harfe khodemoon ro bezanemm be it through traditional music or rap...some of these comments are so baseless...some people and I am not generalizing, from the previous generation for whatever reason will not admit to the problems caused by the government in Iran...To Mortezai, I am an Iranian Youth (considere until 25) raised here, have a double masters (educated just like all those Iranian Youth around me), love my Iranian heritage, love Heydeh and Mahasti and traditional Iranian Instrumental music plus here is the kicker which makes me an Iranian Youth who is a source of ridicule, wait for it...wait for it... here it is...I love Iranian rap.

These all are because of IRI

by parnian (not verified) on

These all are because of IRI itself. Who could set up such a program in Iran without IRI's involvement? They are promoting these things and then oppose it just because that is how they are. They have destructed the culture and emotional well being of millions of IRanians. If you had lived in that situation for all your life you would be confused too. It is so sad. I hope the future will be brighter.....

I don't know what was said

by Ali1234 (not verified) on

I don't know what was said in that particular documentary but one thing I know for sure is that the Iranian youth today is in a deep identity crisis.

Look at "Erfan" himself, he was born and raised in Iran yet he doesn't seems to know if he is Iranian, American, black or...

Just try to hang out with a bunch of 20 year old Iranians for a day, or attend one of their parties, you'll be shocked at how confused, frustrated, fake and superficial they have become.

Niki

The documentary he is

by Niki on

The documentary he is responding to seems pretty bad, but I couldn't get past the first minute of this guy talking. He seems high in an annoying way too, which makes it even harder to listen to him. If people turn to drugs in Iran because of those who have "put their blood in a bottle" as this guy claims, then why is this guy still high when he is presumabely in a place where he is away from that sort of oppression.

These so called devil worshippers and perverts

I just hope mullahs do not start tracking down these underground rappers in order to hang them from cranes on the streets.

Keeping it real

by Jahanshah Javid on

Mortezai, Erfan is not saying drug is not a problem. He is a saying rapping is about being real and talking about society's realities, including drug addiction brought about by poverty and unemployment, including fanaticism, including humiliation.

The documentary made in Iran is only intended to discourage youth from rap music. But like all other foolish attempts at shutting people up, this one too will fail miserably.

Iranian Youth are Source of Ridicule These Days

by Mortezai (not verified) on

Its funny look at this kids eyes, he is High and talking about drugs not being a problem. Maybe, just maybe the government is right in its documentary. This "response" just reinforced the notion that it is.
