Reza Arya

Sings "Khoob kari kardam koshtamet" (Killing you was a good thing)

This is bizarre. A jilted lover sets out to kill his ex-girlfriend. It is shocking to hear the lyrics and watch the video. Right at the end of the clip, the singer's voice says "I killed her in my heart," and we see that the actual murder didn't happen. Just the same, I was shocked to watch this. What is this anyway? Why would a young musician write such a hateful song in the 21st Century, without fear of rejection of his music by audiences? Is it a cultural thing, justified by "gheyrat?" Is there still public acceptance for the notion of honor killing among Iranians? I don't know, you decide.

Love it, Love it, Love it, It was Awesome

by helenpretty (not verified) on

Wow, I can already see what a huge star this guy is going to be real soon !

He has an amazing voice, he sings from the heart & it's such a lovely song, I can't stop listining to it.

I feel terribly sorry for who ever wrote this article & I feel very sorry for this website that someone with such poor english & absoloutly no taste of music gets to write in their music section !

Not only it wasn't what everybody talked about here, but I also think that it was really educational.

Hey, if a guy cheats on me next, I'll definitly kill him in my heart !!! rather than killing myself with the thoughts of him;

I wish him the best of luck & I just can't wait to see him live.

Please give yourself and the poor artist a break!

It's a fresh idea for a music video with a clear message at the end.
Unfortunately, as Iranians and unlike the rest of the world, we have a tendency to put down our culture and heritage and pursue an extremely condescending attitude that demotes Iran and Iranians. I guess it is completely OK to encounter suggested violence in English language songs and lyrics by Western artists, i.e. in genres such as rap, hip-hop or rock. We listen to them, enjoy and never allow ourselves to view them in a negative light. But when it comes to Persian music anything progressive is taboo and self-censorship becomes a motto! The main reason we see enormous progress in arts and culture in the Western world is because they try to stay away from prejudice, self-degradation and close-mindedness, something we have to practice a lot to achieve!

take it easy...its just a music video

by S11 (not verified) on

I think it is a nicely done video with a twisted ending. At the end it's absolutely clear that the story is not about killing or "gheyrat" but about forgetting or letting go of someone who has hurt you, hence "killing her in your heart". Don't you think it is normal to feel hurt if your loved one betrays you (it’s the same for both men and women.)

My opinion

by heilypersian (not verified) on

I think you guys are way too uptight. You are on the internet! Not in Iran. No one will arrest you for liking this video!

Have we been so pre-occupied so much with what is acceptable in today's society that we completely disregard the artistic aspect of this song & video???

In the song, Reza Arya is saying "I killed her in my heart". Which means it has nothing to do with actualy killing anyone. The ending of the video
reveals that he was talking about his feelings towards her, not more.

One more thing, what is up with this L.A thing?
This is a Canadian artist....

What makes me sad is that not one of you mentioned the actualy music and melody in this song, which is very catchy!

Im sure if Reza Arya wanted to send such a bad
message across, he would just tape the news and post
that instead.

"Concerned Iranain", we are talking about Los Angeles!

by Jamshid Niavarani (not verified) on

It is the lyrics of Iranian Music in L.A. we are talking about.

The music in Tehran is rosey, as it has been for over 30 years.

In Iran, since the music industry was created, even prior to the Great Iranian Revolution Music goes through a filter.

In the US, there is freedom of expression.

And with that freedom, there is also stuff we see here.

Shadmehr Aghili and Reza Arya of L.A. singing about killing their significant other.

Benjamin songs are the same....

by Concerned Iranain (not verified) on

It seems that most new Persian Pop music especially from Iran have the same Negative and bitter message for the listener!!! In most cases it is shameful to translate its lyrics into any other language despite the fact that sometimes by contrast they could have possible nice melodies!!!
The level of complain, negativity, bitterness and even insults (nefreen) in some lyrics are quite disturbing! Of course, they are directed toward a so called lover, but I think we all can understand something a bit more disturbing deep down! Why are they so bitter and why they manifest their helplessness in such radical and psychotic ways? Could it be an almost 30 years of massive social depression combined with our previous unfortunate experiences through out our long history? And most importantly, how could we as concerned Iranians help ourselves, that poor country and her battered citizens?

funny thing is that his music is a copy of the song Barun by Siavash Ghomeyshi but it was kind of funny and different, shows how
twisted the persians are getting....taze in bichare ke nakoshtesh faghat rad shod az baghalesh

The bigger crime is mixing cheesy rock riffs with the disco dance beat.
The Shadmehr video does not necessarily condone violence against women for it does not clarify who the song is about!!!

These videos are made by the LA immigrant population

by Davood Solaymani (not verified) on

The Vidoes in question have nothing to to with Iranian society. Shadmehr Aghili never made music like this when he was in the Islamic Republic of Iran. If he had even thought about writing such lyrics a Genie ("Jinn" in Iranianese) employed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards would arrest Shadmehr. He would then be wisked off in the middle of the night and disappear from the face of this earth.

And that other guy, Reza Arya, is an Los Angeles phenomenon.

Anyhow, L.A. is not religious. The Iranian Muslims in L.A. who are not religious wouldn't care if their wives are gang banged. All they are worried about is driving around in a good car.

Iranians in L.A. smoke a lot of Opium, called "Taryaak"; and drink beer like fish drink water. That is what Iranian L.A. is about.

There is nothing wrong with that, that is an alternative lifestyle. We live in America now. Here we have freedom of Expression. And why not?

Stupid song, stupid hairdo, stupid tilting of his head back

by Anonymous Multi Username (not verified) on

We never got over the movie ‘ghysar’ with it's honor killing mentality, then we had a revolution to degrade our women, and now a new generation in the land of freedom to learn are advocating violence against woman with their stupid lyrics. It doesn’t matter if the woman at end is still alive, it’s the idea of men ownership of women that lingers on. There is no hope for us.

Self congratulatory note: That was an excellent comment you just made, but the last part was unnecessary. Women in Iran are stronger than ever before. O.K., O.K. I am sorry about the last part. Nice guitar music.

OMG!

by irannostalgia.com on

Ardekir-o bebin ...   The part of the lyrics that says: " zendaan , jahanam ... bedarak" had me laughing.
Worst than the woman degrading concept, is his nasal delivery, not to mention the perplexed anglo friends pretending to play rock instruments on an eletronic record.

OMG! The Shadmehr one with a sniper gun ...Yeah that is definitly bordering tasteless. Can't believe that! Oh noo!!!! At least the music is good on the Shadmehr one. Though despite the credit saying he wrote  the music, I think its pinched from a Greek pop hit.
