Danielle Directo / Editor in Chief, Published: Monday, November 10, 2008: Esha Momeni, the 28-year-old grad student that was arrested last month in Iran, has been released by the Iranian government after 25 days in jail.
The student is being charged with "propagandizing against the regime," said Dr. Nayereh Tohidi, professor and chair of Gender & Women's Studies, in an e-mail.
"She is in good spirits and well and is catching up on what has beenhappening all this time," said Momeni's friend, Hassan Hussain in an e-mail. Momeni is due to return to the United States next week.
Tohidi said the deed of Momeni's parents' home was taken as bail, and that the student will appear in court soon.

Such a kind person!!
by A friend of Esha's (not verified) on Tue Nov 25, 2008 08:32 PM PSTI have known Esha for about a year and know her to be a sincere and extremely kind person. I believe her ex-husband, who treated her very badly was partly responsible for her passion to do something about women and anyone else who has been mistreated. She always spoke highly about her country and how beautiful it is there. She would email several of her friends pictures of people skiing, shopping and images that reflect a lifestyle not unlike anywhere else in the modern world. From what I know of her, it is my sincere belief that she has innocently stumbled into something that she does not deserve!
I hold activists like her
by Anonymous9 (not verified) on Thu Nov 13, 2008 02:27 PM PSTI hold activists like her personally responsible for Iran's lack of tourism. When you go to Iran, as dual Iranian citizen or otherwise, you KNOW not to provoke the system. What was she thinking?! Of course there was bound to be a trumped up charge against her. The Iranian government DOES NOT act inconsistently, and anyone could have guessed that she might be arrested. What, is she looking for a new tell-all book so she can describe the "horrors" of Evin? When she does something stupid like this, she creates a media spin that causes the rest of the world to completely ignore the beauty and culture of Iran. No, Iran is not perfect, but no country is.
Evin is NOT worse than Guantanamo or any other US prisons
by Javadagha on Tue Nov 11, 2008 08:36 AM PSTEvin is no worse than Guantanamo or any other hidden US prison all over the world. If any of you go against the U.S. establishment(s), your tan-e-lash will be in prison.
Meanwhile, exercise your freedom of hiding in the Western countries and saying things against your country of origin.
If we consider Iran as a mother, this mother produced many haroom-zadeh who are going against it (both inside and outside of Iran).
They should have kept her in prison
by Mehdi on Tue Nov 11, 2008 08:27 AM PSTWhy let traitors go free? Don't these mullahs learn anything from Mosad or CIA? Just let them rot in prison - at the very least!
Brave! But Iranian men = lazy fatso stew and vodka consumers
by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on Tue Nov 11, 2008 07:30 AM PSTSorry about the generalization, but have you noticed how brave Iranian women are? I'm so proud of her. Recently a lot of Iranian women are risking a lot to change Iran. Good for her! I'm so happy to hear she's alright. She is Iranian of 2008!
It was wrong to send her to Iran.
by AnonymousMe (not verified) on Tue Nov 11, 2008 06:18 AM PSTOnce I heard she studied at CSUN, I guessed she was associated with Dr. Tohidi.
It was a wrong move to send her to Iran. Dr. Tohidi who has written extensively against IRI should have known better. Some professors are desperate to publish and see what they do?!
Anyone associated with Dr. Tohidi and/or her husband must know that if they go to Iran, they will be arrested. This is not the way to change Iran or IRI.
Iran is no different than the U.S. If you collect information against a country, its people, or its military facilities, you are bound to get arrested.

Geate news
by Hooshang (not verified) on Mon Nov 10, 2008 09:06 PM PSTLets celebrate this awesome event. I will sacrifice a sheep. She could have landed in Evin hell and get subject to all kinds of unspeakable abuse.
Great!
by Mokhlesse (not verified) on Mon Nov 10, 2008 06:27 PM PSTI'm really happy for her and her family. Esha is courageous and brave and though the dangers, she went to Iran and did what she believed in. That's priceless.
glad she is free!
by Anonymous 1 (not verified) on Mon Nov 10, 2008 05:12 PM PSTI am glad that she made it out ok,but whoever wants to do political activities should know this may happen to them too if they go to Iran. The report should say catching up on her sleep instead of catching up on what has been happening all this time.I am sure she had a lots of sleepless nights.I hope she make it out of Iran safely too.
Maybe she's learnt her
by ee (not verified) on Mon Nov 10, 2008 04:09 PM PSTMaybe she's learnt her lesson now!!! And, either not be involved in all this propoganda activities and if she still wants to continue not go to Iran!!!!
"propagandizing against the regime,"
by David ET on Mon Nov 10, 2008 03:04 PM PSTCan one of the apologists explain and defend the logic for this B.S. charge of ""propagandizing against the regime," ??!!
