David Safavian

New trial for Bush Administration official in corruption case

In this May 24, 2006 file photo, David Safavian, a former top procurement official in the Bush administration, leaves federal court in Washington. (The Politico): David Safavian, the only person who went to trial and was convicted by a jury as part of the Jack Abramoff investigation by the Justice Dept., will get a new trial. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ordered today that Safavian get a new trial on charges of lying to federal investigators and obstruction. The court also vacated Safavian's conviction on two charges. No date has been set for the trial, but the appeals court decision is a setback for the Justice Department, which went to great lengths to investigate and prosecute the case. Safavian, former chief of staff at the General Services Administration, is the only person charged in the Abramoff case who refused a plea deal and went to trial >>>

I agree with others.

I agree with several others who have mentioned that the Iranian of the Day should go to a person (could be non-Iranian too) who has contributed positively to his or her community, especially to the Iranian community.

Throw away the key

His actions will close doors for future young Iranians who want to become civil servants.

Bush's cronies believe they are Governors not civil servants.

On lighter note..

Didn't his ancestor's invented Shiaism and started a war rifts with Sunni ottomans? What the hell let's convict him that too..

embarrassment

It's one thing to post the news. It is another to announce that someone who's a convicted felon for obstruction of justice deserves any positive recognition.  "Iranian of the Day" carries a positive image.  This is an insult to previous individuals named "Iranian of the Day" .  Perhaps he would be a more appropriate candidate for an "Iranian Hall of Shame".

Iranian of the DAY????

by oh come on!!!! (not verified) on

if he's iranian of the day please nominate Mahmoud Tofighian for the title too!
you guys filed him under Anyway: Foozooli can kill

I thought Iranian of the day was someone we could be proud of for some reason or another. A white collar convict is not a source of national pride for me!
