its not about the car, its about how the west suported anti-iranian culture in last 30 yrs. Many iranians beleived that the west would make the ture iranian values visible when Irans religios goverment has attaced national values all the time. But western media didt it even worse, Media supported mullah's political line to attact iranian culture and historical identity. Thats why many iranian are sensetiv and react un-rational when someone is attacting our values, which (at least) is not worse than other nation in the world.

Once again, It is South Korea that should be assembling Iranian cars by now, not vice versa. And Peugeot 405 is a car that is obsolete already for 17 years.

So be proud indeed- if you are willing to have low standards! Otherwise, Iran should be a significant player on the world automotive scene by now, after 39 years and so many resources and brains. Exporting cars to Belarus and Azerbaijan and Syria does not qualify, sorry.

Samands have turned out to be good cars apparently

We (Iranians) like to bring politics into every discussion. So, let's stick to the car please. From a purely technical point of view, my assessment of the Samand is positive.

Several people who have bought Samands and have been driving it for a few years have told me good things about this car. Also, the general impression is that Samand has turned out much better than Peugeot 404's that Iran Khodro has been assembling for year!

A clear evidence of Samand's quality is its track record and longevity working as taxicab on Tehran's crazy roadways. I have asked several cab drivers and they all said it has turned out to be a hardy replacement for the old trusty Peykans!

Auto Assembly Started in Iran in 1969

Iran National (Iran nacionale be irooni) started assembling cars from parts make in the U.K. in 1969. Remember Pekan ?!!

Thanks to the Islamic Republic, after 39 years, we are still doing the same thing. Assembling parts. Its true that much of the parts are not made in Iran. But, the most important parts as well as design is not Iranian; stamping panels out of sheet metal, paiting, or making wire harnesses is not a high tech thing.

South Korea, with less than half of Iran's population, no oil, no gas, no copper, no uranium and actually almost no natural resources is the biggest force in electronic goods such as semiconductors, LCD screens, cellular telephones, compact cars, Ships.....the list goes on and on.

Its true that Koreans also imported the technology from the U.S. and Japan, but in 39 years, they have not only over taken the comanies who started them in the business, they have become #1 in those industries.

The reason Iran is the shit hole it still is, and will continue to be is Islam, Theocratic government, beautiful Persian culture fucked by Islamo-Arab culture and dumbasses who are proud of still doing the same thing we were doing 39 years ago, assembling automobiles.

It makes me proud. I have seen Samand and its exhaust pipe worth the whole Kia and Hyundai cars. Despite its compact size it was specious inside. The engine worked smoothly. The trim was classic not wild looking like Dodge Magnum that goes out of fashion in 5 years. I did not have the chance to drive it but the car was very together and sturdy. Congrats to Iranian engineers! One step at a time. Thanks for posting!
