Ghajar vs. Pahlavis vs. Khomeinis

by Setiz (not verified) on

Here is a layman comparison of these three dynasties:
(A) Ghajars were basically a bunch of drug addicts. Had they stayed in charge of iran, they would have sold another half of iran to russians and brits to pay for their addiction as well as their trips to europe and their french whores. They could not do much even for their own addictions let alone for iran. iran looked pretty much like afghanistan of today upon their departure.
(B) Pahlavis saved iran. Maybe iran needed an authoritarian to bring her out of the abyss of backwardedness and religious fanaticism. The people around M.R. shah were corrupt though, most of them surviving from ghajar era, and would abuse their position when they could, mostly to accumulate wealth. But shah got many many things done despite the financial corruptions. Contributions of pahlavis to iran are too many to mention. The main failure of shah was in development of freedom of speech, etc. Maybe that was possible, maybe it was not (as it has not been possible during IRI 28 years). But iranians basically do not like authority and therefore exaggerated shah's atrocities and diminished his contributions to prove their own righteousness.
(C) IRI has been pretty much useless and severely damaging for iran so far. The best elected president has been Khatami. Khatami and his foolish smile was pretty helpless and incapable and nowhere close to either of pahlavis in achievements and in no way better than shah in atrocities during his presidency (although there were other forces that controlled events during his presidency). We had far more executions and prisoners during his presidency than any same period during shah.
Denial of facts does not get us anywhere. We need to be truthful about past before planning for the future.

Johnny, you are still wrong.

by Another Anonymous (not verified) on

You still resort to vulgarity to prove your point without expressing any counter point. Read my words to see I courageously tell you in one out of 1 thousand points that you may be right, but you do not have the same courage. Yes, you are right about dar-al-fonoon, but it was only one institution. There were similar institutions in other cities as well but so limited that only very few could go. That is why at center of cities there were writers (Kaateb) whose job were to write a letter or a legal document for ordinary people. But Pahlavis made is widespread and mandatory for all to go to school, even in villages. Numbers don't lie: literacy in 1299 (reza shah's coup) was single digit and that was mostly all about reading koran. Literacy in 1357 (revolution) was between 60 to 70 percent. All major universities were established during pahlavi's. Yes iran had some educational system before but not for commoners and not mandatory.
You see johnny, you are wrong again.

Education started by Pahlavis is a LIE

by John Carpenter (not verified) on

Qajar Prime Minister started "Dar Ul-Fanoon". It was a trade school. You took several years of elementary and middle school classes and then went to "Dar Ul-Fonoon" in Tehran. If you graduated from Dar Ul-Fonoon and you parents were rich you could go to Europe to continue an education. Mossadegh studied in Europe. A lot of people studied in Europe. The Pahlavis did not invent education in Iran. If they did then that means that the 2500 years of Monarchy was a waste of time until the Pahlavis. If so, then why a 2500 year celebration by the Pahlavis?
The Pahlavis lived a contradiction.
I am here to clear that up.
"Agar shoma Khengee, be man che? Boro gooret ra gom kon". If your dumb, what does that have to do with me?, get lost.

Me! said it all. Of course Reza, Jr. does not want to deal with kinds of you. Kinds of you only deserve "kinds of you" kind of government. To "John Carpenter"...SO WHAT?

by Kaveh Nouraee on

First of all, if you want to be heard, may I suggest you start by using your real name, rather than hiding behind a fabrication that indicates your admiration for the horror film director or the first person to win one million dollars on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.

Secondly, GROW THE FUCK UP. This is just a videotape of the Shah and Shahbanou riding the Matterhorn and you have to turn it into a bullshit dissertation of who he may or may not have slept with? What kind of a degenerate maggot are you? Can't you come up with something more original? Substantial? RELEVANT?

I am so sick and tired of worthless, stupid, emptyheaded mental midgets like you who can only resort to personal attacks or character assassination of the deceased in order to feebly attempt to bolster their position.

So, whatever your name is, unless you have something to actually CONTRIBUTE to the proceedings, log off iranian.com and log on to TMZ.com and follow the sex lives of the losers there, since you seem to have this obsession with it.

AA should review his history book if he has any

by Another Anonymous (not verified) on

Yes, shah jailed some opponents unjustly (which was totally wrong I admit) as it was very difficult to distinguish between likes of rafsanjani and likes of bakhtiar; they were mostly safe (and very very few according to even IRI reports) but later killed by IRI, like bakhtiar, forouhars, hovaida, etc. My point: on balance his wrong-doings were far less than his contributions to the nation, both in an absolute sense and compared to IRI. If he were such a vicious leader then likes of khomaini and khamenei -- the nastiest of the nasties -- would not have survived his jails. But, all governments jail opponent who go beyond simple talk (need I mention a few? Even in democratic societies?). We live on earth, not heaven, and need to deal with reality, not nirvana.
As for his poodle -- I don't know about it, it may be just like John Carpenters' accusations of homosexuality -- but who cares anyway, that does not make someone good or bad. It is totally immaterial and childish to talk about it.

Shah's opponents weren't all "Islamist" or "communist"

His own supporters, but critical supporters were in jail. Most of them died in jail because the a-hole wouldn't release them from jail. He sat in his office like a tarsoo poodle (which he was) and they all died after revolution.

He even took his freaking dog with him when he left Iran. So sad. No wonder he died... God works in mysterious ways.

A A wanted IRI murderers out of jail?

by Another Anonymous (not verified) on

Don't worry about opponents that shah jailed, they are all quite alive and well running iran now. They were asking shah to hand them the country on a silver platter, along with all its wealth and power, and finally manged to get what they wanted by deceit. Rafsanjani is a prime example of one of those jailed (but not killed) who was the architect of hanging by rope of thousands of iranian youth on cranes. Rajaaee, another IRI murderer, was another one jailed by shah. And, and, and...
I rest my case.

Another childish post from Johnny

by Another Anonymous (not verified) on

Let me see if I can summarize your points:
(1) You are constantly referring to shah's personal life as a case against him with questionable sources. What planet are you from. If you are living in the west, you should be very familiar with this type of accusations and even behavior. Nobody judges a leader these days dominantly based on his personal life -- as most people are guilty in that department (need I mention a few?), not to mention either Safavid and Ghajar kings. A leader is the leader of a country, not a prophet of morality (most prophets had problematic personal lives too -- need I mention a few?). So the best answer to all of your objections in that department is that his personal life is nobody's business as it could not make a good or a bad leader out of him. (you forgot to mention that people were also saying the same things about shah's old mother from long ago)
BTW, those frequent travelers to iran may know that the same rumors are now prevalent today in iran with regard to mullas: eye-witnesses are easy to find to swear that both khomeini and khamenei had homosexual relations; not to mention participation of many many people, religious and secular, in legalized prostitution, aka sigheh. I would believe them as much as I believe your evidence from people possibly with personal agendas.
(2) Shah was a dictator. You may have a point here, but who is not a dictator? I don't even know what this word means anymore as most leaders are dictators (need I mention few?) irrespective of if they are elected or not -- election per se does not make a ruler a democrat if that is what you mean. At this time in human history, there are two types of leaders, inherited leaders (kings), or elected -- with lots of shades in-between. Most in the first camp rule by force, most in the second camp rule by deceit, and either could be good or bad. These terms (democracy, elections, dictators, ...) are so abused that they have lost their meaning and their appeal. Yes, it would have been much better if he were not a dictator (whatever it means). But we saw what election did for us once we were allowed to vote -- 98% voted for islamic republic without asking what it meant, mostly blindly based on religious grounds. So just stamping shah with a word does not make him bad (or good).
.
I am copying comments from another thread here to see if we can evaluate him more objectively, rather than based on emotions and accusations (true or not) with little or no consequence for the country or her population.
.
Let me just mention only two things for reasonable people who read this thread.
(I) If Pahlavis (reza shah and M.R. shah) had done nothing at all except for the educational system that was developed under their reign from nothing (except for mostly maktabs with mullas teaching religious texts during ghajar) to the best in the world, they deserved immense praise. Let me paraphrase the head of engineering department of stanford university (the best engineering school in america after MIT in case you do not know): iran has the best engineering school in the world. Do you know what he was referring to? He was referring to the university that was established during pahlavis, with shah personally being its overseer (not under ghajar nor under mullas). If that is the only thing that pahlavis did, they saved iran from being like a mixture of afghanistan and pakistan today. I know some don't care about this achievement at all, but others do care a lot about this huge achievement. If a shah-basher does not agree on the immense importance of this matter, then we really belong to two different universes with totally different rules and therefore have nothing in common, to discuss, to agree, or to conclude.
(II) For those who go to iran often, should look around carefully to see what major institutions they see: Here are some examples:
(a) schools and educational system with formal curriculum (free under shah but not in IRI),
(b) universities (free under shah but not in IRI),
(c) steel mill,
(d) refineries,
(e) telegraph and telephone communication network including first communication satellite that iran rented/purchased,
(f) hospitals and clinics,
(g) paved roads,
(h) railroad system across iran,
(i) airports and airliners,
(j) radio and television stations,
(k) banks and banking system,
(l) power distribution network and electrical power generation stations across major towns,
(m) piped water and sewer system in major cities,
(n) home appliance and car production factories,
(o) criminal justice system,
(p) development of identity cards (shenas-nameh) and birth and death, marriage and divorce registration system based on shenas-nameh, land and contract registration system,
(q) modern armed forces (that could take 8 years of mulla war with saddam with support from almost all islamic and western countries for saddam),
(r) the first research electronic chip fabrication facility (in north tehran - then on takhte-tavoos ave),
(s) a health system with free immunization for all children against communicable diseases (that essentially wiped out most of those diseases in a generation),
(t) Helicopter development and construction plant,
(u) the first research nuclear reactor in tehran university (built by GE)
(v) the half-built (and still half-built) nuclear reactor in bushehr,
(w) first batch of highly (western and internally) educated people (now middle-aged), including 35 well-trained nuclear scientists and engineers (as of 1979, now living in america except for a couple of them -- according to NPR)
(x) and ...
Then ask when any of these institutions were established? The answer, almost without exception is during pahlavis, only 58 years of pahlavis.
No leader is perfect and the best that we can do is to provide a comparative analysis, e.g., compared to ghajar or IRI that the people "voted" for.
IRI has now been in place for about 29 years -- about half as much as pahlavi regime, so they should have had at least half as many achievements as pahlavis had.
Alas that for a few mosques, a few prisons, a few projects that were in the planning stage in 1979 (like highways), sivand dam that is destroying iranian heritage, and maybe a few public toilets here and there, nothing else have been achieved during 28 years of islamic republic. Everything else were built or were planned to be built during pahlavis. Any cab driver in tehran surprisingly can testify to that nowadays.
This is how leaders are judged, based on their achievements, not based on the endless childish stuff that are either rumors or related to the nature of all human beings that you and likes of you are constantly preaching with no buyers anymore (except for a few who are still isolated from the realities of today's iran).
People in iran are worried if they have food on the table tonight, if their son or daughter returns safely tonight or is imprisoned or raped, if they have enough money for the education of their son or daughter, if their son or daughter can find a job even with education, if they can pay the rent at the end of the month, ..., people do not care anymore if their leader is a saint or not. They care if their leader can improve their lives, which shah could for those who can objectively compare the beginning and the end of pahlavis versus any other period in recent iranian history.
I search for reasons to hate either of pahlavis, but I find none. Because I only care for iran and their contribution to iran and iranians rather than what kind of personal life shah had and if he took a ride in Disneyland while visiting america. Pahlavis served iran well, well beyond what they did wrong (and sorry to say, but beyond what iranians were ready for -- as they have proved in their multiple elections since 1979), this is a fact that is very hard to dispute.
Does shah deserve criticism? Absolutely, everybody deserves criticism, but not childish outcries like those here, and in a balanced way.
So you see, shah did not fail iran on balance; Iranians who preferred a deceptive imported mulla failed iran. Shah, despite all his short-comings, was way ahead of his time for his nation. And before his departure, he was willing to compromise and hand-in the country to nationalists like Bakhtiar. People refused. He was saying at the time: "I say to those who say that 'shah must go', whom do I hand-in the country to before I leave?"
I rest my case. History will judge him fairly, without any emotions or personal vendetta, unfortunately we'll all be dead by then!

Pure Economic Genius

by Shaheh Iran (not verified) on

The Shah had foresight. What Dubai is doing with Dubai Land Theme Park today in the UAE in 2007, the Shah of Iran wanted to build for Iran in the early 1960s. The man was an economic genius.

If anyone knows anything about economics they will know that the entertainment business a) creates jobs, b) increases civil order and contentment, c) generates income for the state in the form of taxes and in the case of Iran d) would have helped the country diversify its economy beyond oil.

Had Disney Land opened in Iran in the 1960s, today with a population of 70 million of which 70% are under the age of 30 this industry would have contributed to Iran’s economic growth and development.

Too bad we only have empty mosques all across the country to show for.

John Carpenter and the History of Iran

by John Carpenter (not verified) on

Let us get this straight.
I am telling the historical truth.
The Shah was a dictator.
The only education the Shah had was at some school in Switzerland named Le Rosey. The Shah was a weak student. The Shah had 3 bad marriages. The Shah had many mistresses and one homosexual lover. The homosexual lover returned with the Shah from Switzerland and became a member of the Royal Court. The gay Swiss man was named Ernest Perron. This name is documented in Ashraf Pahlavi's book, "Faces in the Mirror". Also read Mansour Rafizadeh's book. Rafizadeh was a top SAVAK man. Another book to read about the Shah's homosexual affair is in farsi by Hossein Fardoust. Fardoust was the Shah best friend since childhood. Fardoust went to Switzerland with the Shah.
I don't have to make anything up.
Everything I know is from the Royal Courts of the Pahlavis and the Qajars first hand knowledge. And by the way I am related to many people who were in the Royal court. Many of these people still run the show today.

Shah Haters...

by Another Anonymous (not verified) on

Why all these shah haters always act like illiterate and irrational people who bash shah childishly only for the sake of bashing him. At least if they give a rationalized reason, they can educate others and may receive some reasonable response.
Case I. Amir Nasiri: "The Video clearly shows a leader of a country who was so self absorbed and arogant and selfish and ignored the countries problem and its real issues".
If this video, a short ride in Disneyland, is all that a shah-basher has as a "clear" evidence of shah's ignorance and arrogance, then shah must have been a really good leader. This is really sad to see we still have such childishly uneducated people around.
Case II. John Carpenter: He tells such big lies that I don't this even he himself would believe them, Maybe he is just joking.
Case III. That Malek M.D. guy is yet another illiterate character. Every word that he says has three errors in it: one spelling, another grammatical, a third is semantic. Thanks god he is an M.D. What would he be without an M.D.
Now wonder shah failed in educating such people - they are probably the same people who turned religious in 1979 and marched after emam blindly.

America has always helped Iranian Democracy

by John Carpenter (not verified) on

America since it first became involved in Iran during World War 2 tried to help Iranian Democracy. Iranians say that Iran has thousands of years of history. Yet, Democracy was born in Athens, Greece. Athenian Democracy was weak and fell to the Roman Republic. Rome was also weak. Rome was a slave state that fell to the fair and just law of the Roman Citizen from Judea named Jesus. In 1776, America was born. The USA is the greatest Democratic Republic on earth. It is a true democratic republic. In America, Freedom of religion and expression exist. Even in the Shah's time there was no freedom of speech or expression. The Shah's goons, "Chaghu-kesh-ha" and the SAVAK brutalized and killed innocent Iranians without rhyme nor reason. The Shah was an ignorant, uneducated person. When asked by his oncologist to take his medicine the Shah replied, "I don't need it, Imam Mahdi (the Shia Messiah) will save me." The Shah died in Egypt in 1980. No one cares about that anymore. Ayatollah Ruh Allah Musavi Khomeini died in 1989. The best thing that Khomeini did was abolish the monarchy.
The Shah's son, Reza Pahlavi has lived most of his adult life in the United States. No one takes him seriously. He is a walking joke to the American Media. Fox News every once in a while bring him in in order to make fun of him. Reza is so ignorant he doesn't know that Americans media is making fun of him. There must be something wrong with the drinking water in Maryland and Virginia. Reza Pahlavi doen't know how to make good decisions. Reza Pahlavi should accept the Islamic Republic of Iran and should renounce his right to the Peacock throne. After such action, he should announce his support for reform in Iran. This action would remove all doubt about his intentions.

The Video clearly shows a leader of a country who was so self absorbed and arogant and selfish and ignored the countries problem and its real issues. If he had realized from the beginning those problems we would have never been in this situation that we are today. Shah and Khomeini are the same. Bothe were corrupt, arrogant and ignorant. There were not leaders but dictators. People who did things just to satisfy their own needs.

We need a nationalist leader one who will do things for the sake of its people.
