Delara has 3 days to live (new contact updates)
by SCE Campaign
16-Apr-2009

The young artist Delara Darabi who has spent the last 6 years in Rasht prison in Iran for the alleged murder of a relative, is scheduled to be executed in THREE days from now.

It was reported that her lawyer Abdolsamad Khoramshahi had been given official notice of her execution date. He is convinced that Delara is innocent and only hopes that the family of the victim will give pardon by accepting "diyeh"  (blood money) as retribution.

Stop Child Executions has reported the urgent news to the United Nations High Commission on Human Rights, Members of Parliament worldwide and other human rights groups and individuals. Stop Child Executions is hoping there is enough pressure on the the head of Judiciary in Iran to grant a new trial whereby Khoramshahi will be able to present the new evidence he has obtained which would prove her innoncence. SCE has also been working to establish contact with the family of the victim to see if there are any other avenues to save Delara's life. Stop Child Executions urges you to bombard the Head of Judiciary, Ayatollah Shahroudi's fax with the message below (or your own letter):

FAX : 00 98 21 33904986 (If you are dialing from North America, you would dial 011 98 21 3390 4986)

Your Excellency Ayatollah Shahroudi,

Delara Darabi, the young artist who has been in Rasht prison for the last 6 years in Iran, is at risk of execution. I understand that her lawyer  Abdolsamad Khoramshai has been informed that her execution is scheduled in the next few days.  He  is convinced that if she were to be given a new trial whereby they could re-enact the scene of thecrime, it would be easily proven that Delara is innocent of the alleged murder she was convicted of.

Khoramshahi has said many times that he has new evidence including  the crime being committed by a right handed person whereas Delara is left-handed. Many attempts have been made by human rights groups and celebrities to try and get a pardon from the victim's family, however they have said that they want her execution to be carried out.

Please keep in mind that Iran is a state party to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), which prohibit the use of the death penalty against people convicted of crimes committed when they were under 18.

In the indicated circumstances, I'd request that she not be executed and be granted a new trial.

Delara

by huma (not verified) on

I am so appalled, shocked, and sadened, to hear of the sudden, unannounced state sanctioned execution of Delara. This is legalised murder!! You have to be some kind of sick person to be able to do the job of executing people.
''An eye for an eye, makes the whole world blind,'' Gandhi.
There is another desperately grieved family now.
We must continue to fight the death penalty. It's medievil, barbaric, and has no place on this earth, and nearly always hits the least priveliged, underdog.
There will be flower laying and vigil in Delara's memory, outside the Iranian Embassy in London on Wednesday, May 6th between 4pm and 6pm.
Delara...may you be free and at peace, sweet, beautiful Angel. I will light a candle for you.

DK, what can be done.. PEOPLE PLEASE SEE DK POST BELOW

by rosie is roxy is roshan on

iregarding coming Iran human rights event.

DK what can be done is the same thing you are talking about on the voting blog. SOLIDARITY. Delara is a pawn, so is Roxana...but people need to start learning to STAND UP TOGETHER. and they need to START TO DO IT NOW. AT LEAST AS PRACTICE...First of all, the way the Delara pawn moves is still undecided, so since the pressure of the Delara groundswell is already there, , whether it works or not it's a GREAT way for people to start "exercising their muscles" as it were. Then when they go to the event you post below, EITHER they will be energized by the pride of having made a difference TOGETHER or the ANGER of having not. Doesn't matter. The energy is aenergy and it must be mobilized. Delara is so gifted, so beautiful and so tragic...that to do NOTHING at this point can only lead to people feeling shame and then sloth...whether they're conscious of it or not...and that's been the case for thirty years. It's no longer acceptable. IRI is using Delara as the INTERNAL star of their global danse macabre and Roxana as the external. Iranian expatria (which means here..) MUST act on both. And Delara's life is in danger in the next couple of days, while Hillary and O are taking very good care of Roxana.

Sorry to put myself on top of your post. I'm not playing that "hand game"...feel free to repost on top of me and mark your previous post double post, delete, I'm chill. :o)  And don't forget the newer blogs. Take care, r.

TURN April 25th Concert in Support FOR SCE Campaign & Human Rights !

The predicament although less dramatic of Roxane Saberi or Hossein Derakhshan a blogger on Iranian.com should Not be Ignored on such an occasion where their names should be reminded !

I hope that some kind of declaration could be made during the April 25th Concert in Support of the SCE Campaign and Why not have Nazanin come and Speak along with the Support of KIOSK and ASLANI ETC ...

ARTISTS SHOULD MOBILIZE FOR A JUST AND NOBLE CAUSE LIKE THIS WHICH FOR ONCE IS NOT POLITICAL BUT HUMANE !

I don't see what can be done in such a short time ... Unless people demonstrate or Storm IRI Embassies or Occupy them in different capitals to express their dissaproval of seeing Delara executed.

The predicament although less dramatic of Saberi or Derakhshesh a blogger on Iranian.com are also ignored by many including on this site.

I hope that some kind of declaration could be made during the April 25th Concert in Support of the SCE Campaign and Why not have Nazanin come and Speak along with the Support of KIOSK and ASLANI ETC ...

by rosie is roxy is roshan on

and in your case, KEEP moving..now. this is all part of a big ballet orhcestrated by iri. today it is the beautiful iranican journalist..convicted of nothing..it was the handsome young blogger murdered, the million signatures people arrested, and so much more on every single front oh activism, minorities, etc. in iran..and two days ago even the pornographes. we're watching a ballet of massive propertions and this girl's being used as a pawn in a big game...but i think what move they make with delari is still an open question which largely depends on us..and i.c. here is us..

Shame Indeed !

Shame on the IRI for carrying this out after the long and hectic campaign to inform the world on her predicament thanks to the tireless efforts of SCE and Nazanin Afshin Jam.

Lets Hope it won't be carried out. It would be dreadful !

JJ, PEOPLE, IT HAS TO BE NOW!

by rosie is roxy is roshan on

The information about Delara MUST be prominently displayed on Iranian.com TODAY or she will die on Monday. The blogs are not enough. Many general readers do not read them.

SCE says below they sent Delara in as Iranian of the Day and her paintings and a poem as an article two days ago. Yet as I look at the homepage, they have not been published. SCE, RESEND THEM! They may not have been  received. Jahanshah, PLEASE request them immediately if you didn't get them.

There is also a newsfeed about the major protest on Monday at IRI embassy  in London. It ihasn't been featured. This is a worldwide campaign. IT CAN WORK. Please prevail upon jj to feature this information properly.  It MUST BE NOW.

Yes, by all means, send your letters, faxes, phone calls. They have worked in the past. But RIGHT NOW the most important thing is to GET the materials where the GENErAL READERSHIP can see them.   iiranian.com is THE LARGEST IRANIAN WEBSITE IN THE WORLD. The MOST important way to be effective right now,, and I mean RIGHT NOW, is to ensure our HUGE audience sees these materials.

THIS IS THE SINGLEMOST IMPORTANT  VEHICLE FOR DELARA IN THE WORLD. One half million hits per MONTH from INDIVIDUAL computers. Tomorrow is Sunday. Monday there is a noose and a victory for the REAL criminals and a loss for every one of us and for the soul and future of Iran.

Please read Delara's TWO poem she wrote from prison and view her paintings on the link I gave you in my last post.

JAHANSHAH, NOT TODAY. NOW.

I still believe in life
where the smiles of colors on the body of paper
paint the words of love
with my nostalgic sentiments

I love the pulse of earth in the spring
for its blossoms have crossed the winter
to plant its flowers on the walls of my impatience

I still believe in living life
as I avoid counting the pulses
of the visiting prisoners

I despise execution of love
along the noose
above the stool of death

I adore the laughter of love
as it defines freedom
in the extension of history

I wish to embrace love
with all its colors
for it awaits the caress of my touch

I trust my hands with you
to translate kindness with words of freedom
to define the justice in my life
for the small world of my glances
under the blue sky of my colors

I am afraid of justice of Quran
on the small surface of my body
I am scared of passing the line
that ends on top the execution stool
I despise this wall of impatience
for it is hauling the word of prison

I experience Life with its words
Freedom with depth of its screams
Humanity with its kindness
War deep within its shame
Love with all its colors
Prison in the black of my eyes
Resistance in the silence of my loneliness
Peace in its spring like smiles

and I am in love with the colors of life
like the flights of birds to infinity
I am the prisoner of colors

Demonstration in front of Iran Embassy in London

by SCE Campaign on

//www.amnesty.org.uk/news_details.asp?NewsID=...

Amnesty International members will demonstrate outside the Iranian embassy at 9am on Monday (20 April) against the scheduled execution of a young women sentenced to death for a crime committed when she was under 18 years old. Reports in the Iranian media says that she could be executed on Monday (some reports even state that the execution could be as soon as Saturday).

Delara Darabi, now aged 22, was sentenced to death in 2005. In 2003, together with her 19-year-old boyfriend, Amir, she went to a woman's house where Amir reportedly killed the woman. But Delara initially confessed to the murder, saying that Amir asked her to confess to protect him from execution - as she was under 18, they believed that she could not be sentenced to death.

Since then Delara has retracted her confession but she was sentenced to death all the same. She has been languishing in prison ever since, with some reports that she has suffered from ill-treatment.

Amnesty activists around the world are urgently campaigning to stop her execution. The organisation is urging people to take action online by emailing the Iranian authorities. More details at: www.amnesty.org.uk/delara.

WHAT: Demonstration to stop the execution of Delara Darabi
WHEN: From 9am, Monday 20 April 2009
WHERE: Iranian embassy, 16 Princes Gate, London SW7 1PT

Amnesty International UK Campaigns Director Tim Hancock said:

'Delara Darabi should not be executed. She was only a child at the time of her alleged offence.

'In the past, Iran has commuted death sentences after an international outcry, so we hope our campaign could really make a difference.  We're urging people to take action online and come to the embassy, to help us try to stop Delara's execution.

'Iran is bound by international law not to execute child offenders yet it continues to do so, leaving the country increasingly isolated as other states abandon this appalling practice.'

Iran has executed at least 42 child offenders since 1990, eight of them in 2008 and one on 21 January 2009. The execution of juvenile offenders is prohibited under international law, as stated in Article 6(5) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), to which Iran is a state party.

The writing that was submitted with Delara's paintings was not "Freedom" poem.

The poem in Persian that is featured is by one of the bloggers of Iranian.com and not by Delara.

Everyone is encouraged to make their own contributions on internet and other media.

Thank you

Was the poem you sent in the one on PS

by rosie is roxy is roshan on

Freedom? Because I was using it as the central theme of my blog I'm writing, and I don't want to duplicate.

(Long) pS Sorry, I'm terribly confused. There's a poem of Delara's featured on the blogs now but it's not from SCE Campaign and not the Freedom one. Does Delara's poem go WITH the Iranian of the Day? Or is it separate?

Also don't understand Persian much, does that poem explain the situation???? It couldn't...I'm so confused, I just don't get it.

Also I have to say that this girl's a heartbreaker and when people see that face of hers in that pale blue scarf under Iranian of the Day you'll get letters. And letters. Lots of general readers don't even look at the blogs, but they love the visuals. There's two days left, would've been better to have done this before, lay groundwork then build from there. For next time.

Meanwhile our other internet networks at major sites such as myspace, facebook etc has also been active.

Contacts have been made with European Union, United Nations and other resources . Also today Amnesty International issued an urgent international call about Delara.

Other attempts to stay the execution is being made in Iran.

Please continue to contact Iran officials and the media. Write in your blogs, send emails and get the word out.
