Actor and human rights activist Sean Penn has saluted the courage of Libyan freedom fighters who overthrew dictator Muammar Gaddafi's government last month (Sep11).

Gaddafi's 41-year rule came to an end on 20 September (11) when he was ousted by rebels backed by officials from the intergovernmental military alliance, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato).

Penn has been travelling across North Africa and joined Egyptian protesters in Cairo last week (30Sep11) to add his voice to calls demanding a speedy end to the political regime by another ousted leader, Hosni Mubarak, who resigned earlier this year (11).
