AIPAC’s Support of Iran Sanctions Parallels Lead Up To Iraq War

Eric Clifton has an important addendum to his earlier post on the push from almost the entire Senate for Obama to add further sanctions on Iran (which I posted on here). Obviously, the Israel lobby supports these sanctions too, but Clifton says their tactics resemble all too closely the lead up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq. He writes:

a Tuesday press release [PDF] from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) brings to mind eery parallels between the escalation of sanctions against Iran and the slow lead up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003. The press release read:

AIPAC applauds today’s bipartisan letter—signed by 92 U.S. Senators—to the administration urging it to sanction the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), or Bank Markazi. The letter, spearheaded by Senators Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Mark Kirk (R-IL), notes that the CBI lies at the center of Iran’s strategy to circu... >>>

Gret to be back. I´m probably on my last life line. Not sure how long I can survive if I misbehave myself again.

Very glad to see you. I actually am surprised that despite the fact we support different political systems I tend to agree with many things you say.

BTW. Are you actually from Gillan? I visited a restaurant called Gillan in Holloway Road, London not so long ago. Small but very pleasant.

the west worked very hard to dupe Iranians to bring the regime to power in the first place.  It's their child.

Precisely, why the West needs to rectify the damage it has done on Iran . Howeve, despite the West´s connivence and skulduggery, in fermenting discord (especially the French) the revolution  came about by our own people´s had. I´m not talking about the poor or disenfracnhsied during the Pahlavi regime but the intelligentsia, the confortable and stupid Middle Class who were responsible.

I, too, do not want a slow sluggish demise for this regime which is why I have always said that sanctions on their own will not only be ineffective but can potentially hurt normal Iranians whose support we need to overthrow this mostrous regime. I totally agree with you therefore that there needs to be a total embargo, especially crude oil and the formation of a national liberation army.

Believe me, contrary to the perception many people have, I am fully aware of Israel´s double dealings with the Islamic Republic despite the hostility between the two governments on the surface. I want Israel along with the other countries in the West to stop playing games otherwise they deserve public derision as in the recent Ofer affair.

Stop Iran exporting fuel and it cause regime change in weeks, no one wants regime change though, the west worked very hard to dupe Iranians to bring the regime to power in the first place.  It's their child.

Thank God for AIPAC. I'm not

Thank God for AIPAC. I'm not saying AIPAC acts in the interest of Iran but it is in the interest of freedom seeking Iranians to pursue a crippling embargo on the Islamic Republic until it yields like South Africa. Sanctions and an armed resistance group is the only solution. AIPAC should realise that playing the nuclear card is not enough. Nothing but regime changd will do.
