Talk of the role of religion within these movements has largely been
framed in negative terms. Yet religion has an important role to play in
these self-determination movements and religious leaders and
communities should be part of any international policy calculations
towards the region...When speaking of religion's influence on self-determination we can say
that instead of religion being an opiate, it functions like an
amphetamine.
