Rezai turns to police over dad's 'death threats'

French tennis player Aravane Rezai has filed a complaint against her father for "harassment, intentional violence and death threats", a police source revealed on Thursday.

The complaint was made by the 24-year-old world number 52 last week at a police station in Boulogne-Billancourt on the outskirts of Paris.

According to the Le Parisien daily, Rezai also accused her father, Arsalan, of "swindling tens of thousands of euros", but the police source interviewed by AFP said there was "no evidence" to support this aspect of the complaint.

The prosecutor in Nanterre must now decide whether the case should be transferred to Saint-Etienne, where Rezai's family resides, or treated where the complaint was originally filed.

Rezai, who is of Iranian descent, severed contact with her family after falling out with her father in January.

Arsalan Rezai has been involved in numerous incidents affecting his daughter in recent years, earning him fines or exclusions from tournaments.

The Father even insulted Bahrami saying he ain't Iranian ...

The Fellow is Crazy ...

The Father insulted Bahrami saying he ain't Iranian in an interview in the Journal de Dimanche only because Bahrami questioned about Aravane told journalists that the girl had a boyfriend ( Normal at the age of 24 no ? ) and probably needed to be independent at her age and probably wants to fly with her own wings.

The Father just can't handle seeing her daughter take responsability.

I think he is simply filled with alot of ego and can't let go.

I think Aravane is right to distance herself professionally so as to be able to focus entirely on her training and priorities.

I don't think she hates her father but feels she needs her independence.

But nearly all champions, male or female are under parental influence and it takes a great deal of courage to distance yourself but it's inevitable if one wants to grow up.

I remember the blog on her

And how many IC commentators were upset with her position regarding Ahmadinejad. It is sad that problems between her and her dad has escalated to this level. Hopefully, they can learn to handle their differences without having to go to court.

Now it's all crocodile tears! Should've thought of it first!

She is going ballistic on the goose who is laying the golden egg and think he is such a hot shot whereas he was kicked out of WTA in 2006 and in between.

There is a limit to how much a person can take especially if s/he doesn't have to take it.  He'll learn, the hard way, or he may never learn and end up miserable for the rest of his life.

It is sad but he was the one pushing her to support stupid Ahmadi in the first place.

Her dad wanted a pay raise! Aravane wanted to sever the tie! It is sad!

****************************

Rezai's suit says her father, to whom she had been paying 2,000 euros (2,900 dollars) per month had suddenly increased his 'wage' demand to 35,000 euros (50,750 dollars).

The senior Rezai said in a May 29 interview with Journal du Dimanche that he is not to blame, and instead blamed 'scavengers' around his daughter.

In another French interview, he said that the immigrant family depended on Rezai's tennis earnings.

'I'm dedicated to my daughter and I have no retirement. Nothing. I'll see if I can find a job, my wife, but being nearly 60 years is not easy. I want to help young players motivated, I have the experience. But financially, I do not know how we'll do'

Thank you for posting! I like sports news!

"At the Australian Open in January, the Frenchwoman had a wild argument with her father and longtime coach, Arsalan Rezai. French media said the incident began as an altercation between Arsalan and Aravane's boyfriend, who is apparently unwanted by Arsalan. The incident wasso serious that the WTA opened an investigation and decided to provisionally suspend Arsalan from attending his daughter's tournaments."

Her dad needs to take an anger management class!

Says she had broken ties since January.

Looks like her father's ambition was his ambition for himself and not her.  Similar stories have happened before like Leann Rimes and that Gymnist in Houston few years ago.

Don't know if she was at fault also but when you have been banned in tournaments (her father) it is certainly a strong evidence of guilt on her father's fault.
