TEHRAN (Reuters) - Three hundred drug traffickers are on death row in Iran, the judiciary said, reflecting Tehran's hard line on narcotics which has added to international concerns over its extensive use of capital punishment.

"For 300 drug-related convicts, including those who were in possession of at least 30 grams of heroin, execution verdicts have been issued," Sharq daily quoted Tehran prosecutor-general Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi as saying on Monday.

Although the list was long it did not contain any big-time traffickers or ringleaders, he said. All the convicts face death by hanging.

Amnesty International says Iran is second only to China for the number of executions, with at least 252 people put to death last year.

As well as drug trafficking, murder, adultery, rape, armed robbery and apostasy are all punishable by death under Sharia law practised since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

Iran dismisses criticisms of its justice system, saying it is implementing Islamic law and accuses the West of double standards.

Real Traffickers Are Pasdars - Drugs and Organs

by ayatoilet1 on

The real (organized) drug traffickers in Iran are the Mullahs, and their surrogates like the Pasdars (IRGC). 280,000 kilos of heroin and opium come into Iran from Afghanistan and about 200,000 Kilos is transhipped abroad (to Europe etc) from Iran. The Pasdars control the borders and obviously this volume of drugs can not get in without their blessing and support. Iran has millions of drug users. The Pasdars have a second (very significant) business now (black market human organ sales). They need to kill people to sell organs. Killing supposed drug traffickers kills two birds with one stone, eliminates drug sales competition, while providing more organs for sale. The global need for organs is basically infinite...thay can sell every organ they can harvest at very high prices. 20,000 dollars for kidneys, etc. They can produce over $100,000 in organ sales from each person they kill. These days if you go to prison, they immediately do medical checks, determine your blood type etc.; and executions are generally done by medical teams rather than old fashioned hanging or shootings.

The volume of executions in Iran is now hitting records in "global" terms. They will find any excuse to kill someone. Its very tragic. disgusting, sad, frightening .... what has Iran come to?

Regime Change?

Drug Traffickers huh, so if the secret police put drugs on a human rights or anti-regime protestor, they then get classified as drug trafficker.

Very Smart.

Strange how all of a sudden Iran out of the blue has thousands of Drug Traffickers it never had before on the one hand and these executions have no impact on drug sales within Iran on the other. Strange No?
