France and Italy have said they are to send small teams of military officers to advise Libyan rebels who are seeking to topple Col Muammar Gaddafi.

French officials said fewer than 10 would be sent, while Italy's defence minister announced that 10 would go.

The UK said on Tuesday it was sending a similar team to the city of Benghazi.

Most of the country is not habbitable.  There are only handfull of cities  here and there. half of the cities are ocupied by so called rebels, the other halfs are pro ghadafi cities (now how mnay are that 300 cities!) just pick them and bomb ghadafi's residence(s) however many they are, sooner or later you get lucky and done with it.

How about brutal dictatorships SK?

Are those the "answer?"  Should Ghaddafi and alike allowed to remain in power, even if the majority of their own people despise them and are victimized by them, just so that a military conflict can be avoided?

War is not the answer

War is not the answer dear DK .....

it never was and it never will ...... Nato is guilty here

Atrocities of War

All of the atrocities of war are for the living.
Only they realize the full impact
of a child crippled, a young girl maimed.
You see, the dead enjoy the finality of death.
While we the living are haunted by their dying.
All around us the war,
in the rubble of a house,
the roar of a jet,
the crack of a rifle.
You can smell it, taste it,
even feel it.
It climbs into your sleep
filling your dreams.
Everywhere around you it is
until with astounding clarity it strikes you.
Shit man, you are the war.

On April 30, 1975, the Vietnam War ended with the capture of Saigon by Communist forces and the surrender of General Duong Vanh Minh and his cabinet in the Presidential palace. As troops of the People's Army of Vietnam marched into Saigon, U.S. personnel and the last American marines were hastily evacuated from the roof of the U.S. embassy.

Roger Cohen Said it best. Don't tip toe into a conflict. Either Stay Out or be Ruthless !

Arabs Will Be Free by Roger Cohen ( NY Times)

"Three months later the genie is not only out of the bottle, it’s shattered the bottle. I said of Libya in an earlier column: Be ruthless or stay out. So now the West is in, be ruthless. Arm the resurgent rebels. Incapacitate Qaddafi. Do everything short of putting troops on the ground. Qaddafi, as President Obama has said, “must leave.” So that Libya can be an Arab country that is imperfect but open."

Tiptoe Tactics ...

Not sure if by showing your cards to the enemy you are going to win the war ... This reminds me of when Kennedy was sending Military advisors to Vietnam only to end up with being fully pulled into the war on the long term.
