Iranian Sunni protesters killed in clashes with security forces

At least 12 people who are believed to belong to Iran's Sunni minority have been killed in clashes between security forces and anti-government protesters in the south-western city of Ahwaz since Friday.

On Monday, Shirin Ebadi, Iran's Nobel peace prize laureate, wrote a letter to the UN high commissioner for human rights, in which she said "more than 12" Sunni protesters had been killed in Iran's oil-rich province of Khuzestan, home to many Arabic-speaking Sunni Iranians.

According to Ebadi, hundreds of people in Ahwaz had gathered for a peaceful demonstration against the Islamic regime's discrimination towards its Sunni minority.

"During these clashes, more than 12 people were killed, around 20 injured and tens of protesters have been arrested," Ebadi wrote in her letter.

She criticised Iran's treatment of the Sunnis and said: "In the 32 years' history of the Islamic Revolution, Arabic-speaking Iranians have suffered from inequality and an extensive discrimination."

Terror regime oppresses Sunni Muslims

The sheer hypocricy and ideological bankruptcy of the Terror Regime occupying Iran is astonishing. Iran is being drawn into hostilities with Israel to protect a largely Sunni Palestinian population who have been at loggerheads with Shia Islam right from the beginning surrounding the leadership succession. Do you believe that the Hamas will allow Shia Muslim Iranians to chant 'Ali Ali' in the streets? Do you believe that Palestinians will tollerate Ashoora and Tasuee processions in the street? It is tempting to see what a snapshot of Ahamdinejad's wish to see Israel to be wiped of the map come true only to see bloodshed in Jersualem with ungrateful Sunni Muslim Palestinians preventing Shia Muslim pilgrimages from entering the Al Aqsa Mosque. You only have to see the sectarian violence in Bahrain and Iraq to see that the Sunni Muslims Ahmadinejad is trying to save simply do not have any respect for his clan!

The Sunni Muslims in Ahwaz are the same as the Palestinians. Let us see Ahmadinejad and his Cronies come to accuse Israel of oppression now! 

The whole anti-Israel crap churned out by Ahmadinejad is nothing but a farce. There is no sincerity towards the Palestinian cause whatsoever. If they had an inch of compassion they would do what they have threatened to do for 33 years and pick a fight directly with them. Or they could support the Palestinians in the peace process with Israel. They couldn't care less about that either. There is more than a casual link between the treatment of Palestinians and Iranian Sunnis who are largely Arabs. 

Israel's existence and occupation of the Palestinian territories is ESSENTIAL for the continued existence of the Islamic Republic . It thrives on executing its enemies and rallying around people against a common enemy. The moment Jews and Arabs make peace the Islamic Republic has lost its bogey man and its only effective device to thwart opposition movements against it.
