Contemporary galleries in the UK are increasingly trying to acquire works from the 20th and 21st centuries, particularly those from the Middle East, rather than older traditional western works.

Institutions such as the British Museum and Tate Modern in London have recently established international acquisition committees to help search for the work.

David Hannah has been investigating this new trend and assessing what it means for a greater understanding of Middle Eastern culture.
