Iraq Seeking Iran-Khodro's Assistance in Renovating Transportation System

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iraqi provincial official called on
Iran's largest auto-manufacturing company, Iran-Khodro (IKCO), to play a
key role in the renovation of the war-torn country's transportation
system.

"Our country is passing through a reconstruction period and IKCO
can play a great role in the renovation of Iraq's transportation
system," Governor of Iraq's eastern province of Maysan Mohammad Shaia'a
al-Sudani said in a visit to IKCO headquarters in Tehran on Monday.

He also voiced his country's willingness to launch joint ventures with IKCO and to establish a Samand production plant in Iraq.

The governor of Maysan province also referred to Samand's good
reputation among the Iraqi people, and said, "Samand can compete with
its peer European vehicles in safety and environmental standards."

Also during the visit, IKCO's Executive-Manager for Exports Amir
Hawashem said, "IKCO is ready to start construction of a Samand
manufacturing plant and transfer the related technology to Iraq,
provided that all the required investments will be done by Iraq's
government or private sector."

"Iraqis welcome IKCO products warmly due to their proper marketing and after sales services," Hawashem claimed.
