TEHRAN, July 13 (Xinhua) -- An Iranian lawmaker said Tuesday that sanctions will further enhance capabilities and potential of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), the local satellite Press TV reported.

"The enemies of the Islamic Republic seek to weaken the powerful arms of the revolution, namely the IRGC," Hossein Sobhani- Nia, member of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission was quoted as saying.

Dismissing the sanctions as a nonstarter, Sobhani-Nia said IRGC has played a "positive" and "constructive" role in the nation's development and progress.

Also on Tuesday, the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad praised IRGC as a strong force that guarantees the security of the Iranian nation, according to Press TV.

"The defensive power of the IRGC and the army will cut off the hands of the arrogant and bullying powers," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying in a gathering attended by top IRGC commanders.

Sorry, Cyclic Forward, not this time,

Not to say IMF isn't the master of finding 'crap...that nobody else uses or reads' of at best 'creative' nature.

But not always. A lot of his stuff originally comes from Press TV, which this item does. (But I guess IMGollam likes to post some of it from secondary sources so it doesn't all say Press TV, Fars, Tehran Times, etc. It would be very easy to do. You would just take the item from Press TV and google the key words , news and the date and find a secondary source. How'm I doing, IMG?)

Now granted Press TV is always propaganda and sometimes crap. But sometimes it is true propaganda. It is where you will find today that Iran is fifth in cement production worldwide. Which glorious achievement is doubtless true and which you probably won't find elsewhere.

IMHO IRI propaganda of more questionable factual nature is often newsworthy just for being the IRI line (as long as that  is made clear by the news poster, which IMF will never do.).  Today you will also find today Iran's oil chief saying sanctions will be good for Iran. So this is clearly their fundamental propaganda line. But the important question is why did Xinhua, the secondary source, pick it up, and in this case in the IRGC form? Xinhua is NOT 'crap' 'that nobody uses'. It is the Chinese news website published in six different languages and is according to them third most viewed in the world.

//news.xinhuanet.com/english/2007-08/31/content_6637522.htm

When I used to post news a lot, it would sometimes come up with important items before the other major news sources.

So why did they bother with this one? After all, did they bother with the cement? One has to assume they did it because they think it may be important. The Chinese approach to IRI is strictly pragmatic. They couldn't give a damn who controls it or how as long as trade keeps flowing and the region is not destabilized.

In this case then they are voicing a complaint about the sanctions. That they may not work. Appealing in English to the Western mindset: not only that they may not work but may backfire badly as a geopolitical bargaining chip, while  strengthening the economic clout of the organ directly responsible for enforcing the dictatorship. I, along with MM, would take this article seriously.

sepaah will find a way to create another black market(s), yet.

that is how IRGC gets richer and stronger, just like Saddam's sanction busting tactics.  i.e., IRGC had a good teacher.
