Tehran, Jul. 09 – From the Grapevine...

Several hundred students staged a protest outside the main gate of Jondi Shapour University in Ahvaz, in the oil-rich south-western province of Khuzistan. They chanted “death to the dictator” and “death to Khamenei” (Iran’s Supreme Leader) and clashed with security and intelligence agents. Several students were injured.

Elsewhere, in the north-eastern city of Mashhad 300 students demonstrated in Ferdowsi University. They chanted “Students would rather die than accept humiliation”, “free all political prisoners”, and “Ya Hojjat Ibn Al-Hassan (referring to the 12th Shiite Imam), root out oppression”.

Special anti-riot forces attacked the protesting students with batons and sticks. Clashes ensued and some students hurled empty cola bottles at the security forces.

In the capital, dozens of plainclothes agents and special black-clad anti-riot units have been stationed at Tehran University’s main gate and are controlling the area.

Around Vali Asr Square, nearby, Special Forces on motorbikes are riding around watching over the crowd. Students and others are walking around in groups of 6 to 10.

Clashes broke out between 200 opposition activists and State Security Forces under Seyyed Khandan Bridge in north Tehran. People chanted “death to the dictator”, and the police were forced to retreat from the bridge.

I like the idea of your type of Militarist's getting beaned in the heads with Coke Bottles,if only it would knock some sense into you.I'm sure they had helmet's on anyway unlike the old ladies getting beat during the protest's.I know you wished everyone had ignored (Cause of ignorance) the protest's but I thought it deserved a mention. You don't like it because It shows the spirit of overthrowing the fascist regime is still alive and well.If you really cared about Iranian's in Iran you wouldn't be so quick to critize their actions would you? Instead of yawning.Did you read the article? That's alot of student's in Iran taking on the establishment even after a year of torture handed out by your types..

yawning again?

by humanbeing on

sargord, i think the students of iran are heroic, and what makes me yawn is the smug complacency of student inactivity in the cushy countries where you and i live (respectively). not yawn, but bury myself in shame.

last time you found a clip boring that showed the dorms in tehran and its residents being burned and destroyed and created a jarring deja vu of images the berlin bookburnings from the 1930s. i know you love iran, but she will not develop without her students. a fortiori, her students will bring her forward.

None of those demos are from

None of those demos are from inside Iran. And even so, they're pretty sparsely attended. (yawn)

Khalife Khamenei's hopes dashed once more!

by fooladi on

These demos are clear evidence (if any needed) , that policy of terror of the islamist regime has failed meeting it's key objective of silencing the students movement.
