The European Union (EU) says it will pressure Iran to stop the jamming of satellite broadcasters into the country.
Iranian authorities have been jamming foreign satellite broadcasters since government protests took place last year, affecting broadcasters such as the Voice of America, BBC, and Deutsche Welle.
The EU calls on the Iranian authorities to stop the jamming of satellite broadcasting and Internet censorship and to put an end to this electronic interference immediately," said EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels on Monday in a joint statement. The ministers said they were prepared to take action to put an end to the interference, but didn't specify what action would be taken. Iran had previously ratified an international convention banning electronic interference with broadcasts.
