Tehran, Jan 13 (IANS) Iran plans to seek reparations from countries like the US and Britain for inflicting damage on it during the two world wars.
The Iranian parliament has called for setting up of a committee which will ask the warring nations to pay a compensation for causing destructions and extensive casualties in the country during first and second world war, IRNA news agency reported.

“Bombardments and subsequent starvation in the two world wars perished about 50 per cent of Iranians,” Alaeddin Borujerdi, head of Majlis Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy, said Tuesday.

For many years Iranians had been suffering from social maladies caused by occupation of the warring parties in World War I and World War II, he said, adding that Britain used to buy Iranian wheat at high price for its own soldiers causing starvation and extensive deaths of Iranians.

He said that the parliament would back the government’s initiative to take legal action against the countries involved in the two wars.
