The hypocrisy of American bluster toward Iran
LA Times / Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich

One has to question what motivates Ros-Lehtinen in her push to put financial sanctions on foreign and domestic companies that sell refined petroleum products to Iran. Doing so could lead to more job losses in America and more hostilities between U.S. allies and Iran. This is a time when our policy makers should be thinking about America and Americans, period.

I don’t know much about her academic achievements. I find the content of everything she has penned as pure BS.

You are also right saying that she is an "n-th tier researcher".  These clowns who pass themselves on as Iran experts in the western media don't seem to have much of an academic background.  Aside from Dabashi who is at Columbia, they all seem to have graduated from mediocre schools which don't appear to have a strong expertise on Iran.  Where did SS get her degree (or is working on it?)?  University of Idaho (or is it Utah)?!!!! Certainly not the academic center of the universe when it comes to international relations.

Well, I don't know the person, and I don't care to know. But I'm not surprised at all.

I actually had the misfortune to have a couple of exchanges with her when she used to write on this site under her own name (who knows, may be she is still writing under an anonymous name).  She is a piece of work.

As for the rest of your comments, I agree.  It's all about them and their failed ideology.  An ideology that belongs in a museum alongside other failed projects projects in human history.

"Soraya Sepahpour Ulrich"....the female version of Ardeshir Ommani.  She is an obnoxious leftist dinosaur who--just like the rest of them--is desperately grasping at  straws to salvage her failed revolution.

Well, I don't know the person, and I don't care to know. But I'm not surprised at all.

I was one of those who were supporting an Iran with nuclear weapon capability. Never for IRI, but for Iran nonetheless. An article by an Iranian student in Iran, sometime before the election, changed my mind. The strategic value of nuclear weapon for Iran was already diminished in my mind, but still I was not against it, for the sake of 'glory'. That student showed me the way and I am against this madness attraction ever since. In any case, this is something that democratically elected government of secular Iran has to decide not I, nor any other individual at this point.

But for this bunch, as you mentioned AO, nothing is about Iran. It's about how to salvage 'me' within Iran. This 'me' is not a 'citizen'. It is a project, a failed project that shouldn't look that way.

Otherwise as a 'citizen', who cares about promoting individual rights and freedom in Iran. They are 'American' citizens, arguing about 'American' interest.

So who cares if a nuclear IRI may be able to completely cut off the international support for Iranian uprising, and even force them to provide IRI with even more means of suppressing the movement. IRI will be there to irritate U.S.A and the world, that's good enough for them. And it doesn't matter what is the price Iranian people would be paying. These U.S citizens are so dedicated that they are fully prepared for Iranian people to pay the price, as they always did.

There She Goes Again

by Mort Gilani on

When I was reading this article, I was reminded of a story that my uncle once told me: A crow is asked why she eats shit. She goes because shit is good for a weak chest. The crow is then told you eat shit and you prescribe it as a medicine too!
SS writes “one has to question what motivates Ros-Lehtinen in her push to put financial sanctions on foreign and domestic companies that sell refined petroleum products to Iran. Doing so could lead to more job losses in America and more hostilities between U.S. allies and Iran.” Does SS really think that American politicians are that stupid to fall for this gobbly-gook? What does the sanction of refined petroleum for Islamic Regime have to do with American jobs and the price of tea in China?
This unreserved Islamist who supported the Islamic Rapists Republic policies for as long as her nose now has the gall to lecture Americans “This is a time when our policy makers should be thinking about America and Americans, period.” She means US should sit quiet when the Islamic Republic arms Koran-thumping, cousin-humping Palestinians, Hezbollahis, terrorist Iraqis, Yemenis and Sudanese to terrorize their and neighboring populations.
This n-th tier researcher says that “Common sense dictates that Iran would want security in its two neighboring countries given the spillover effect.” Oh, really! When you are at your common sense, would you care to explain why Iranian thugs moved to the Iraqi land and occupied an Iraqi oil well last week?
The truth is SS is worried about the survival of Islamic Rapists in Jamkaran more than anything else. You don’t have to be politically savvy to see Rajavi Et al is now preoccupied with their survival in Iraq. They know their time has passed. Rajavi lambasted Malaki government many times more than the Islamic Republic in his last speech in public domain. He probably mentioned the word Iraq more than Iran in that speech. I wondered if the Islamist-Marxists had turned to an opposition group against Malaki government.

What is also scary is seeing all these leftover 1960's and 70's leftists passing themselves on as "Iran experts" to the international media.  Their ideology is obsolete and totally ignored inside Iran, but boy are they vocal.  They also appear to have no shame, are not satisfied with the misery that they brought to our country back in 1979, and are not yet "done" with Iran. They are still trying to force their antiquated Bolshevik mindset upon a whole new generations of Iranians who want a secular democracy that is at peace with the world ("death to no one").  But these fossils are now re-packaging themselves into various reincarnations, being melli-mazhabi, nationalist, seculars, humanists, etc. just so that they can stay relevant and salvage their rotten baby, the 1979 revolution.

This was a bad article, very poorly disguising the real intention. If she wants to protect American interests, then she has to explain how nuclear bomb in IRI can be of American interest, or anybody's interest for that matter.

Now if nuclear IRI has to be stopped, how do you do it? You negotiate, as US did. You reach an agreement, as US did and you follow through, as IRI didn't! The next step is the prospect of raising the pressure. Now if you are not an IRI apologist, then give some alternate suggestions. Supporting the opposition inside Iran is one good option, provided there WAS a defined representative. There isn't. So this will be limited to moral support for the moment. Circumventing IRI censorship is also a good option. Gas export blockade is an economic pressure that US may use. I suspect it will be used, not for gas export per se, but for the whole package of business that some companies may have with IRI. If the package is for enforcing IRI, then US will take action. Gas itself will be imported by IRI from so many places and it will essentially be ignored by US. What matters is the 'package'.

So IRI won't have nuclear weapon. Period. And it won't have the means to withstand the pressure either. Hopefully Iranian people will be least affected by this pressure in a negative way, and most affected by enforcing their fight against IRI. This actually should be the major consideration by US in any policy making. As long as IRI is there, there is no peace for anyone.

What I see is not a black and white world: I see someone who is too afraid to take a position, which makes him/her comment randomly and support both sides of arguments! The funny thing is how you swing to extremes. You'd be the first one to label and ridicule someone then express how you agree with the article encouraging people to blog and elaborate on the idea! LOL

Sorry, didn't mean to laugh but your flip flopping comments are ridiculous.

Now back to work for me!
