Tehran's police chief has reported that 204 people, 39 of them women,
have been arrested after anti-government marches by students. Gen
Azizullah Rajabzadeh said the arrests were made during Monday's rallies
"for violating public order", according to the state news agency IRNA;
detainees will be handed over to the judiciary after police
investigation. Tens of thousands of protesters marched in more than a
dozen universities across the country and in the capital, clashing with
police in the biggest rallies in months. There has been no word from
outside Tehran on the number of arrests.
