Iran not invited to GCC summit

Manama: Iran will not be invited to the Gulf Cooperation Council summit in Kuwait City on December 14, a senior Kuwaiti minister has said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shaikh Mohammad Sabah Al Salem told reporters that there would be no invitation sent to Tehran to attend the annual gathering of the six GCC leaders.

In December 2007, Qatar, the host of the GCC summit, invited Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in an unprecedented and highly unexpected
move.

New initiative

However, observers have ruled out that a new invitation would be extended to the Iranian leader to attend the meeting this year.

Iranian-Gulf relations last February were strained following remarks by Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri, an adviser to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Bahrain being a historical part of Iran.

Bahrain was promptly and strongly supported by the other GCC and several Arab states. Morocco subsequently severed diplomatic relations with Iran.

Tehran officially denied that it endorsed the anti-Bahrain allegations and the foreign ministers of both countries later said that the issue was settled.

Arabs and Islam

by mahmoudg on

we have been seeing the atrocities of Arabs and Islam for 1400 years, with the dirtiest episodes in the last thirty.  Now America and the West have seen the dark side of the Arabs and Islam since 9/11.  I am glad 9/11 happened, because that prompts Americans to do something about this Arab/Islamic infestation that has plagued the world.
