LOS ANGELES — A graduate student detained for nearly a year in Iran has returned to Los Angeles.
Esha Momeni (ESH'-ah moh-men-EE') was detained Oct. 15 while researching women's rights in Iran for her thesis at California State University, Northridge.
The 29-year-old student was charged with acting against Iran's national security and held for a month, mainly in solitary confinement.
Northridge spokeswoman Carmen Ramos Chandler says Momeni has returned safely and has already met with her college adviser.
Momeni has dual U.S. and Iranian citizenship. She was freed from an Iranian prison in November after her father posted bail, but she remained in Iran under a travel ban
