A senior Iranian parliamentarian says the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has advised the president to reverse his decision in appointing Esfandyar Rahim-Masha'i as his top deputy.

"Without any delay, the removal or acceptance of Masha'i's resignation must be announced by the president," Mohammad-Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard, the first Majlis vice speaker, told the Iranian Students News Agency on Tuesday.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who was re-elected for a second four-year term in a disputed presidential vote in June, came under fire from some of his staunchest allies by appointing Masha'i as his vice president.  Aboutorabi-Fard said the viewpoint of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, on the issue had been forwarded to the president in a letter. “The removal of Rahim-Masha'i from key positions and presidential deputies is the collective decision of the political establishment.” Masha'i, whose daughter is married to Ahmadinejad's son, is a controversial figure in Iran for remarks attributed to him that the Iranian people are friends with Israelis. Not good and good?

Not good because Mahmood by appointing Mashai Vice President (not to mention FIRST Vice President) seems to be attempting to make good on his promise to change 50% of his cabinet in a reconciliatory manner (bad if you would rather the current Regime should be so ntransigently Fascistic as to forment transition to a secular democracy next week. Good luck). VERY bad becaus obviously he's being pressured to change his tactic. Good because it reveals even more fissures within the power structure and gives a (further?) indication of who the main culprit is.

Sometimes I honestly wonder if Mahmood has ever even taken the POSSIBILITY that there MAY have been a coup seriously. Did you see the look in his eyes when his 'victory' was announced? I personally wondered whether he was seeing himself and his audience swathed in divine light again.

___________

So Khamenei got someone in the Majlis to make the announcement for him. What a hypocrite. And ultimately what an idiot.

My take on it. What do you think?
