About 2 weeks ago we posted a blog with regard to a joint committee that has been established by Mousavi and Karroubi. The committee was established in order to follow up on the rights of those individuals arrested or wounded as a result of clashes with the armed forces.

Etemadmeli (Karroubi’s official newspaper) in today’s newspaper released additional information regarding the committee:“Ali Reza Hosseini Beheshti (son of famous martyr Beheshti) will be the official spokes person of the committee.”“Families of the victims can conduct searches for their arrested relatives, and additionally they can now pursue legal actions through the various facets of the committee.”“The committee is a legal organization and Morteza Olavy will be the head of the legal division.”“The aim of this committee is to exert sufficient pressure on the judiciary and penitentiary officials in order to safeguard the release of those who have been arrested.”“THIS COMMITTEE DOES NOT HAVE POLITICAL AMBITIONS AND ITS GOAL IS TO SERVE THE PEOPLE.”

verytass, I'm not even sure if I could differentiate between...

those who are "interested in reform" and those who are "fed up with the regime".

Looking for "any real evidence" in this mess is impossible, my friend. This hall of mirrors has been ERECTED against the interest of the Iranian people by the nascent, this may sound conspiratorial but is isn't, military industrial complex developed and run as many "enterprises". This military industrial juggernaut, whose interests are represented in the "nezaam" by Ahmadinejad and his entire entourage, is trying hard to get its own market share out of the huge arms market in the ME dominated by US and its "resellers" like Egypt and Jordan.

This is a macro economic issue for Iran and the US in primary roles, and S. Arabia and Egypt in the secondary roles. Based on the lukewarm efforts by the West in "helping" the Iranian uprising, Ahamdinejad seems to be in, and the rest is just business as usual.

I think it's a fascinating and important question and

by rosie is roxy is roshan on

you should blog on it. Tapping on your little blue screen name, it seems you've only contributed news.

But this kind of topic is exactly one of the kinds of things the blogs should be for. IMHO.

NIAC funded by reformist factions of regime?

by verytass on

Was NIAC initially funded by the reformist faction within Iran? Their co-founder Mr. Babak Talebi was shown on NPR a few weeks ago telling national TV that all the people out in streets in Iran are only interested in reform, since 85% of them voted for reformist. Which is false as I know many of them are fed up with the regime. Their statement on national TV and their about face change in recent weeks and past lingering rumors makes me wonder now if there are any truth to that. Anyone has any real evidence aside from rumors, I'd be interested.

More precious pearls on detainees from niac and rooz

by rosie is roxy is roshan on

From niac blog  these from yesterday (the one above is from today):

According to Amir Kabir newsletter, the head of Tehran’s Justice Department claimed that he does not have written and formal information regarding the number of detainees.

How efficient.

___--

From their item on Tajbakish, the American just jailed this week:

According to the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, over 240 other prominent Iranian lawyers, activists, journalists, professors, human rights defenders and students have been arrested without charge, and have been taken to undisclosed locations since the demonstrations began.  NIAC has also received many reports of detainees in Iran’s prisons being mistreated, including prisoners being tortured and raped.

How nice.
