He spends an inordinate amount of time later in the interview railling about how now IRI will be intransigent in all its international negotiations. What is so ironic is that Obama said it would've been the same no matter who won.

I wonder if this isn't part of what they wanted from all this. To prove a point.

I have read arguments from people in the international community with no particular vested interests that elections were not fair or fair. But I have to say I agree with Escobar, why would they have increased Basij recruitment fivefold in months preceding the elections and had worst crackdown on human rights on all fronts in recent history at the same time if they didn't have something brewing...
