The National Iranian American Council (NIAC) welcomes Rep. Jane Harman's retraction and clarification of her statement regarding the "separation" of Iran's ethnic groups and regret for the concern it caused. "I was not and am not calling for the creation of ethnic tensions or separation in Iran - nothing would be less productive," said Harman in a statement to NIAC. "Although my comments on Iran were taken out of context, I regret any concern they might have caused." "My point was that the diversity of views in Iran should be better understood in order for the United States to formulate the best strategy for persuading the Iranian government not to pursue nuclear weapons development," Harman added.
>>>Her retraction about separating Iran is a good start. Now she has to work on the "military option is on the table" statement.
She does have a lot of work to do.

Whatever
by Kaveh Nouraee on Fri May 22, 2009 12:06 PM PDTHer "retraction " is a joke. She's only sorry for being caught.
And as for this being "taken out of context", Trita Parsi himself takes exception to Harman's claim, as do I.
Her original statements reflect her true feelings. No amount of retraction or claiming to be taken out of context can obscure that.
She is up for re-election next year. Retract her out of office.
this shows Fred has been dishonest all along
by Anonymous8 (not verified) on Fri May 22, 2009 10:46 AM PDTand should be ignored.
NIAC is a threat to the Israel lobby that Fred supports. and that's what this is about.
A job well done by NIAC
by Mola Nasredeen on Thu May 21, 2009 10:06 PM PDTThis is what she said to NIAC after receiving thousands of comments condemning her warmongering stance against Iranian people:
"I was not and am not calling for the creation of ethnic tensions or separation in Iran - nothing would be less productive,"
So next time AIPAC agents will think twice before opening their mouth againsts the interests of Iranian Americans. Now they know that they are being watched and exposed. Many thanks to people who condemned her remarks by signing the petition and to NIAC, one of the true repesentatives of Iranian Americans.
Fred's at it again
by IRANdokht on Thu May 21, 2009 06:34 PM PDTI didn't see anyone else jump on Harman.
Ok there was one other petition which is still gathering signatures and she's already retracted her statement, thanks to NIAC.
your negativity towards NIAC and your constant nagging and empty slogans have just become cartoonish. Give credit where credit's due!

Kudos to NIAC lobby
by Fred on Thu May 21, 2009 04:35 PM PDTMany individual and legitimate organizations were up in arms against the airhead congresswoman’s nonsense way before NIAC saw an opportunity to score a cheap point. But the mere fact that the lobby is seeing the need to once in a while take the side of the Iranian people verses its usual tilt towards the IRI’s position is a plus and must be commended.
Good news!
by IRANdokht on Thu May 21, 2009 04:28 PM PDTIt's good to have NIAC to organize this effort and speak for us in DC. Harman didn't know how many Iranians have access to email :o)
Thanks for the post.
