We Need to Talk!

Today’s rapidly growing and evolving blogosphere presents virtually every person with the opportunity to publish their thoughts, ideas, and opinions on the internet. Unfortunately, in mid-February, many of these voices were silenced as Bluehost, one of the world’s largest hosting companies, decided to act on Article 13 in its Terms of Service. Article 13 restricts the use of Bluehost’s services in countries sanctioned under U.S. international law. As an unfortunate side-effect to the blanket-ban, users both inside and outside of the sanctioned countries have been notified that their sites are coming down

Profit Over People

by Young Bosnia (not verified) on

This is just ridiculous. It easier to implement total ban, cut out all bloggers coming from “sanctioned” countries in their Terms of Service agreement, than risk consequences if they violate the “sanctions”.

It is so easy: Bye Bye to freedom of expression for the Bloggers coming from sanctioned countries - presently include, among others, Balkans, Belarus, Burma, Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iran, Iraq, former Liberian Regime of Charles Taylor, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, and Zimbabwe.

Look at the definition! They are sanctioning former regime of Liberia!? Hello!? Any blue-host web sites owned by ex-regime of Charles Taylor… give me a break… Balkans is not a country but it is my region at doorstep of the EU. This provision must be from the 90-ies when civil war was ongoing.

Shame on you Blue Host – Long live free Iranian blogosphere!

This does not affect iranian.com. But the decision by bluehost is total nonsense and should be absolutely condemned. Information is not covered by the sanctions.

this is actually dated BEFORE JJ's article

//mydailyclarity.com/2009/02/web-hosts-systematically-silencing-international-dissident-blogs/

but it provides a little more information.  also, at the bottom is some information regarding contacts at bluehost.  //www.bluehost.com/ or the CEO //www.mattheaton.com/ and matt@bluehost.com

what about a signature letter or something to bluehost?

on the face of it, i'd have to agree

by anonymous fish on

that this sounds highly suspect.  but i'd like to hear more about it or at least hear from buehost before going off on a rant.

mashty.  you are so wrong.  all of the people you named care about iran.  i think that they are just a little more realistic or fair than most of their opponents.  mouth of the enemy?  are you referring to the US?  do you consider that iran is a FRIEND to the US?  don't you WANT them to have better relations?  i just don't think your attitude is helping things.

Now come and defend

by Mashty (not verified) on

All those who believe the West cares for the Iranian people, Kashani, Kaveh, zamzam11, and the rest: Come and defend this one. I want to hear it.

Let's see if these guys truly care for Iran or just burp against the country and its regime from the mouth of the enemy.

Iranians don't need Western low life red necks to broadcast their thoughts. There are plenty from the beautiful and culturally advanced Asia that would do better.

Another part of campaign

by Alborzi (not verified) on

There is a systemic campaign to dehumanize Iranians.
Similar to what Nazi's did to Jews and South Africa did to its blacks. They are preventing our students to attend the universities, Iran is under sanctions for potential issues and their own buddy with proven capabilities and war crimes is jumping for joy. Please nation wake up, do not tolerate this. You are not terrorist, the terrorists come from their allies.
