Iran is to send a female skier to the Winter Olympics for the first time at next year's Games in Vancouver, Canada, the head of the Islamic Republic's ski federation told state media Monday. The chosen competitor will ski in "full Islamic dress," Iran's National News Agency reported. Three women Fatemeh Kiadarbandsari, Mitra Kalhor and Marjan Kalhor are vying for the place on the national team alongside three male skiers, said Iranian Ski Federation head Isa Saveh-Shemshaki. Trials for the team will be held in December, two months ahead of the event. Iran has sent male athletes to every Winter Games since 1956.

WAIT JUST ONE SECOND!!!!
by IRANdokht on Wed Mar 18, 2009 09:28 AM PDTI am surprised to see the Super Title J! didn't you feature them as Iranians of the day and doesn't everyone always express pride in the Iranian women who despite all the pressure achieve high goals in sports and academia?
What's with sorsoreh comment??? Iranians have always been good at skiing, why is this good news taken as a negative sign for Iran and Iranian women?
what's up guys??? are you tired of Iranian women proving they're capable of holding their own and rising above?
I am so disappointed

Jesus f-ing christ!
by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on Tue Mar 17, 2009 05:48 PM PDTtake off your izlam glasses for 2.2 seconds. Automatically you link this to akhounds. Be happy for these women for f's sake. They've accomplished something, what have you done?
recognize them for their achievement, not who permitted them to compete OR what they are forced to wear. I doubt that's what they even care about. Jesus.
Compitition is last thing on their mind
by Iranyvaliazad on Tue Mar 17, 2009 04:00 PM PDTMoslem akhonds do not care for sports, compitition, first place and or last place ... they just want to use this occassion as a propaganda tool ... that's it. For the moon god's sake, female bicyclist are even frowned on by akhonds owners of Iran.
Full Islamic dress?
by John on Tue Mar 17, 2009 02:49 PM PDTThat sounds like a guaranteed last place finish to me. Skiing (and swimming) attire is all about form-fitting, body-revealing aerodynamics.
I like this absurd quote from the story: "One mullah reportedly said that women should not ski because the movement of their knees looked "more like dancing than sport." ". What an 'arris!!
