Rest In Peace Paul Newman

by Ali-Reza Kasra (not verified) on

I had only seen three of Paul Newman's films in Farsi: Drowning Pool, Towering Inferno, and Butch Cassidy and I really got to know him after I left Iran. Therefore, I don't really associate him with my time in Iran. What I admire about Newman is the consistency in the quality of his films. Usually, an actor is able to only make a few decent films. The qulity is not always there. But few actors, including Newman and Burt Lancaster, did manage to make a series of good films in a certain period of time. Paul Newman's first great film was Somebody Up There Likes Me in 1956. During the next decade he made a series of good and great films including A Long Hot Summer, The Young Philadelphians, Hustler, Hud, The Prize, Harper, Cool Hand Look, Hombre, Winning, and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The 1970's were not a great time for him, but he did manage to make two great films: Sting and Towering Inferno. He made a comeback in the 1989's with Absence of Malice, Verdict, and Color of the Money. He won the academy award for the latter film in 1986. He was nominated again in 1994 for the great Nobody's Fool and in 2002 for Road to Perdition. His last major acting role was in HBO's Empire Falls. There were some less than great movies he made including When Time Ran Out and Drowining Pool, but overall the quality of his films was superior or at least decent.

Hajminator

Interesting article

It is marvelously written and it reminds me Ghesehaye Majid of Hoshangueh Moradi-Kermani. I agree with the fact that foreign films that we love are associated with the translators voice if they are not looked in their original versions.
Well all of this is about a great actor and a humanist; May Mr. Newman's soul rest in peace.
