Supreme Leader-Assembly of Experts
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Thursday highlighted momentous task of the Assembly of Experts as the top policy making body envisaged in the Constitution.

In a meeting with members of the Assembly of Experts, the Supreme Leader said that the Constitutional body is responsible for safeguarding the principles of the Islamic Revolution and the governing system.

The Supreme Leader said that the body is tasked with appointing Leader and monitoring performance of the leadership.

He said that the Assembly has a record of breaking the deadlock citing election of the Supreme Leader immediately after departure of the late Imam Khomeini.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the governing hierarchy of the Islamic Republic follows legal procedure in light of the national voting for members of the Assembly of Experts and their mandate to elect the Supreme Leader.

The Supreme Leader said that the Constitutional body is expected to safeguard the revolutionary values and reinforce them in a bid to thwart any attempt to revision them.

Ayatollah Khamenei cautioned against revision of the revolutionary principles and said that such an approach will deviate the Islamic Republic gradually in a way that even those responsible for the government would not recognize deviation.
