Good news! The Satanic Verses author Salman Rushdie believes that video games can change the world. It's always nice to see such positivity! Clearly Rushdie is an open minded man of the arts.

JJ translated the fatwa issued directly from Khomeini

by Rosie T. on

immediatly after it came in by fax when he was working for the IRI press agency in 1979.  It was a factor in his deciding to leave IRI.    JJ is a huge fan of youtube and posts from there onto Stuff on the homepage every single day.  If isn't really clear WHAT Rushdie is saying about youtube and video games because he obviously doesn't mean that what in his opinion is garbage is good for kids, so clearly the quote is taken out of context.  Nevertheless, taken at face value, it is very amusing that thirty years after jj translated the fatwa which was so instrumental in determing the fate of both men's lives, Rushdie seems to be advocating the most common and fun aspects of the Internet such as youtube as an important force in changing the world.  And that is part of jj's vision too and let's not argue about whether it is or isn't.  If you don't think it is ask jj and let me know what he says.  I'll be waiting for your report.  In the meantime I'd like to drop this, please, if you don't mind.

The ego speaks!

No, not Rushdie, not the author of many award winning books but Rosie T. I didn't say you were lame, I said the link passed on as news was lame, so chill out. I said it was lame because the content was really thin and not news. Who decides what's news and what is a feature as they say in TV, true. Maybe JJ should create a new segment called suggested links. As to the fatwa question, it's old hat to even Rushdie and a discussion of it can be had in much better way than this. So every time Rushdie passes wind and it's reported in the media with a mention of the fatwa then it's news? I'm curious Rosie T, have you actually read The Satanic Verses?

King of mouth diherea

goes at it again. YouTube can only be ragarded as garbage to a pompous, cultural elitist such as Salman Rushdie.

Books can also be garbage. Some of his are vivid examples.

What do you mean he kicks himself?

by Rosie T. on

He kicks himself because Rushdie's alive and kicking and the fatwa never worked?????

Just kidding, of course.

You REALLY read the link until you came to the part about Rushdie and the fatwa along with my comment below and you didn't get it??!!  Wow! That's a little...lame.

I'm not lame.  I walk on my own two feet.  And sometimes I do find myself crawling.

But lame, never.

This is lame, Rosie T

First, this is not news. Second, the comment by Rushdie was in passing and tongue-in-cheek. He said maybe youTube and video games will help the youth in Muslem countries to change because they see the garbage everyone else consumes and they'd want some too. And how is this connected to JJ's link?
